Dragonriding Guide for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight

1.

What is Dragonriding?

Dragonriding is a new type of aerial mobility in the Dragonflight expansion that replaces flying. It allows you to defy gravity while exploring the Dragon Isles by using momentum and talents.

Consider Dragonriding to be a mini-game. You must find out how to travel as far as possible before landing again by pressing the spacebar to lift off and acquire height and speed. Swooping and plunging across landscapes is how dragonriding feels.

How Long Does It Take to Unlock Dragonriding?

When you initially enter the Dragon Isles and begin leveling in the Waking Shores, it takes around 30 minutes to unlock Dragonriding. You will obtain your first Dragon Isles Drake and gain access to the first set of Dragonriding skills after completing a brief introductory questline.

Vigor (Dragonriding Resource)

The major resource required by Dragonriding abilities is vigor. While grounded, whether mounted or not, and while dragonriding at high speeds, Vigor recharges. You will only have 3 Vigor when you first obtain Dragonriding. You will have 6 Vigor and significantly boosted regeneration if all talents are maxed up.

Dragonriding Abilities

Dragonriding skills are used to guide your Dragon Isles Drake and expend Vigor Icon Vigor. You will progressively get access to them by finishing the main campaign in each of the four zones.

The following passives are included in the initial set of abilities:

  • Dragonriding Basics Icon Dragonriding Basics — Your Dragon Isle drake stretches its wings as you fall from a great height, propelling you both onward. Pointing downward gives you additional momentum. Evening out can help to carry the momentum forward. Slowing oneself down by pointing upward. You will begin to plummet gently toward the ground when you are at your slowest. You also get the following abilities: Surge Forward Icon Surge Forward and Skyward Ascent.
  • Vigor Icon Vigor — Dragonriding abilities spend Vigor. Spending time on the ground, whether mounted or dismounted, regenerates 1 Vigor every 30 seconds.
  • Lift Off Icon Lift Off — When mounted on a dragonriding mount, double jump to launch upward and start gliding forward.
  • Thrill of the Skies Icon Thrill of the Skies — While dragonriding at high speeds, you regenerate 1 Vigor every 15 seconds.

The other Dragonriding abilities are unlocked one by one as you complete the main campaign in the new zones.

  • Winds of the Isles Icon Winds of the Isles (Unlocked in Ohn’ahran Plains) — You can detect and utilize gale winds that redirect your flight and propel you onward, boosting your speed in the direction of the gale.
  • Whirling Surge Icon Whirling Surge (Unlocked in Azure Span) — Spiral forward a great distance, increasing speed.
  • Bronze Timelock Icon Bronze Timelock (Unlocked in Thaldraszus) — Mark a waypoint on your positional timeline. Use Bronze Rewind Icon Bronze Rewind to rewind to this location.

Dragonriding Talents

Your Dragon Isles Drake will feel feeble when you first gain Dragonriding owing to limited Vigor and Vigor regeneration. Dragonriding Talents are unlocked bonuses that allow you to stay in the air for extended periods of time, hence raising your Dragonriding competence. Once unlocked, Dragonriding Talents are account-wide and available to all characters.
