Dragonriding is a new type of aerial movement in the Dragonflight expansion that replaces flying. It allows you to defy gravity by utilizing momentum and skills to soar to greater heights and explore the Dragon Isles.
Consider Dragonriding to be a mini-game. You must find out how to travel as far as possible before landing again by pressing the spacebar to lift off and acquire height and speed. Swooping and plunging across landscapes is how dragonriding feels.
When you first enter the Dragon Isles and begin leveling in the Waking Shores, it takes about 30 minutes to unlock Dragonriding. You will receive your first Dragon Isles Drake and gain access to the first set of Dragonriding skills after completing a short introductory questline.3.
The major resource required by Dragonriding abilities is vigor. While grounded, whether mounted or not, and while dragonriding at high speeds, Vigor recharges. You will only have 3 Vigor when you first unlock Dragonriding. You will have 6 Vigor and rapidly increased regeneration if all talents are maxed out.
You can move the Vigor Resource Bar in Edit Mode. We recommend you to use AzerPUG’s DragonRider, addon, which displays the Vigor bar while you are dismounted.4.
Dragonriding skills are used to guide your Dragon Isles Drake and spend Vigor. You will gradually gain access to them by completing the main campaign in each of the four zones.
The first set of abilities includes the following passives:
The other Dragonriding abilities are unlocked one by one as you complete the main campaign in the new zones.
Winds of the Isles (Unlocked in Ohn’ahran Plains) — You can detect and utilize gale winds that redirect your flight and propel you onward, boosting your speed in the direction of the gale.
Whirling Surge (Unlocked in Azure Span) — Spiral forward a great distance, increasing speed.
Bronze Timelock (Unlocked in Thaldraszus) — Mark a waypoint on your positional timeline. Use Bronze Rewind to rewind to this location.
Dragonriding Abilities can be found in your Spellbook and can be rearranged to your liking.
Your Dragon Isles Drake will feel weak when you first unlock Dragonriding due to low Vigor and Vigor regeneration. Dragonriding Talents are unlockable bonuses that allow you to stay in the air for longer periods of time, thereby increasing your Dragonriding expertise. Once unlocked, Dragonriding Talents are account-wide and available to all characters.
Dragon Glyphs are glowing objects that must be flown through in order to earn talent points. Once gathered, you can use them to purchase Dragonriding Talents. They can be found all over the Dragon Isles.
Dragon Racing is an optional facet of Dragonriding that will allow you to test your flying skills on a variety of courses all throughout the Dragon Isles.
You will unlock four Dragon Isles Drakes on your journey throughout the Dragon Isles. These include the Renewed Proto-Drake, Windborne Velocidrake, Highland Drake, and Cliffside Wylderdrake.
Below, we include a preview of all the Dragon Isles Drakes.8.1.
Renewed Proto-Drake is the first Dragonriding mount unlocked upon receiving the A New Friend achievement in the Waking Shores.
You will unlock Windborne Velocidrake at the end of Ohn’ahran Plains campaign when you earn the Together in the Skies achievement.
Highland Drake is unlocked in Azure Span from the An Azure Ally achievement.
Cliffside Wylderdrake, the final Dragonriding mount, is unlocked in Thaldraszus from Cliffside Companion.
Dragonriding mounts may be completely customized. Individual options can be unlocked using items obtained through Professions, Quests, Raids, Renown, Dragonflight Dungeons, and other means. Only at the Rostrum of Transformation can the drakes be customized.
Dragonriding mount customization options including snouts, horns, scales, tails, and armor.
You will find all the customization options available for each mount in our separate guide.Dragonriding Mount Customization Options
Enabling the option allows you to interact with your Dragon Isles Drake. Any other players that engage with you will transform into whelps that will follow your Dragon Isles Drake. Select the Enable Passengers option when speaking to Lithragosa near any Rostrum of Transformation, including the one at Skytop Observatory during the Dragonriding Tutorial or in Valdrakken. Whelps can earn Dragonriding Glyphs but do not compete in Dragonriding Racing. You can turn off the feature by speaking with Lithragosa again.
