The Dragonscale Expedition is a new faction in the history of Azeroth, formed just recently as a new unified front by the Alliance’s Explorer’s League and the Horde’s Reliquary in their endeavor to discover everything they can about the mysterious Dragon Isles. If you’ve been missing the Archeology profession or wish to see it revitalized, this reputation is for you. By participating in their study, you will not only be able to employ unique exploration equipment across the isles, but you will also be able to find secrets and knowledge that might rewrite history itself!
This Renown-based reputation will be available to you very early on in Dragonflight. In reality, the Expedition is in charge of arranging your initial journey to the isles following the events of the Dragonflight Pre-Patch! Keeping this in mind, your journey with this faction should begin with the task Explorers in Peril at Wingrest Embassy. However, it is until later in your exploration of The Waking Shores that you will come to the expedition’s formal basecamp. At this point, you can start the Orientation: Dragonscale Basecamp quest to meet many of the important NPCs involved in the quest’s rewards. It should be noted, however, that you can still earn reputation with the Expedition before you can claim any rewards.
Although all Renown-based reputations in Dragonflight mostly contain “optional” rewards like mounts, cosmetic armor and weapon appearances, toys, battle pets, titles, and unique Dragonriding customizations, they also provide access to a variety of additional activities within the Dragon Isles that reward extra gear and may prove useful while initially gearing a character at Level 70. This is especially beneficial until Dragonflight Mythic+ Season One starts and the Vault of the Incarnates raid becomes available. Furthermore, keep in mind that many of the awards and features from this reputation are account-based unlocks with catch-up options for alts. This is especially useful if you want to obtain some of the unique Profession recipes that are only available at certain renown levels.
For the Dragonscale Expedition in particular, here is a summary of all rewards available from maximizing its 25 Renown levels:
Although there are numerous NPCs in the Expedition, there are a few that are particularly essential since they are regular dealers of the Expedition’s various Renown awards. Having said that, all purchaseable Renown awards may also be obtained from Cataloger Jakes in Dragonscale Basecamp! She is the faction’s quartermaster and can be found in The Waking Shores at coordinates 47.10, 82.58; look for her in the basecamp’s tent, near the Dragonscale Basecamp flight point. Otherwise, due to the small size of Dragonscale Basecamp, you should have no trouble finding any relevant NPCs.
Aside from the cosmetic prizes available at various Renown levels, there are also a variety of Profession recipes available for purchase. Some of these may be extremely useful to you if you want to generate more Gold or learn more about your job! The recipes, as well as the requisite degree of fame and related profession, are mentioned below.
Note that all of these recipes can be acquired from Cataloger Jakes in the Dragonscale Basecamp of Waking Shores.
The Dragonscale Expedition is fairly uncommon among Dragonflight’s Renown factions in that none of its activities are truly confined to the player. This is due to the fact that many of the minigames that may be completed with the assistance of your explorer’s equipment will be found at random while exploring the Dragon Isles or will be active as global missions. Having said that, some activities, such as rock climbing and field photography, remain more engaging than others, such as finding Expedition Scout’s Packs. To that end, the Expedition Supply Kit, which is initially unlocked at Renown 6, will provide numerous quality-of-life improvements to these activities.
