What Are Covenants?
The Afterlife occurs as a collection of innumerable intertwined dimensions in the extended universes of Azeroth, dominated by one of four powerful groups: Kyrian, Necrolords, Night Fae, and Venthyr. — of these classes, called Covenants, has its own function, tasks, and emphasis, performing vital roles in the Afterlife ‘s smooth activity.

To be judged by the Arbiter, who refers most souls to the custody of a Covenant, souls cross into the Shadowlands. These souls iron out their burdens in the domains of this Covenant, hone their Anima, and take their place within their ranks in eternity. A few souls are known to be so vile, so incapable of atonement for their past deeds, that they are trapped in The Maw, a dungeon for those who have sunk so low, so incapable of repentance.

You will walk into this afterlife as a strong hero, as one who has a foot in both the living and the death realms. You will have the luxury of aligning yourself with a Vow that applies to you and your spirit, unlike the dead of the Shadowlands.

This decision would have a significant influence on the whole game, as you will strive to prove your worth to your chosen Covenant, associate yourself with influential denizens unique to the Covenant, and carry out a whole Covenant-specific campaign and plot. You played out one of two campaigns depending on your party in the Battle of Azeroth, Horde or Coalition. You would be able to select one of four campaigns in the Shadowlands: those of Kyrian, Necrolord, Night Fae, or Venthyr.

Pick carefully. Breaking covenants is not impossible, but it would be very hard to return to a previously abandoned covenant.

Discovering Covenants

Your character will begin by leaving The Maw when you reach the Shadowlands for the first time with your first character at level 50 (current 120s will translate to level 50 with level changes between BfA and Shadowlands). You will then browse for the four primary regions, each ruled by a separate Covenant. These areas and their corresponding covenants are as follows:

(Kyrian) Bastion
(Necrolords) Maldraxxus
(Night Fae) Ardenweald
(Venthyr) Revendreth

If you enter the Shadowlands for the first time on the first character, you will be expected to pursue the whole plot. Via Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and finally Revendreth, you can start in Bastion and advance. You will be given the option to align yourself with one of the four Covenants after you have finished this story arc and have achieved level 60 (the latest max level in Shadowlands). For the expansion’s storylines to advance further, you must align with one of them.

Alts and Covenants

Once you have finished this journey of taking one character from 50-60, advancing through the plot and selecting a Covenant, all future characters you take into the Shadowlands will have the option of selecting a Covenant from level 50. For any character, you are not expected to go through the whole plot again. You can want to do so, but from the beginning, you can only leap straight into a Covenant, start working on world quests and jump right into the progression of the end-game. If you want to go back and do quests, though, you would not be forced to follow the order of the region you had to follow the first time.
In restoring Anima to them, as well as taking back souls from the Maw and Torghast, you will have chances to fulfill the Covenant. To update and level up, you can also have a Covenant Sanctum.

The Covenants of Four

This is an outline of all four Covenants, including each covenant ‘s personalities and attributes, including examples of influential heroes from the history of Azeroth who have taken up residency there.

Kyrian
Main Kingdom: Bastion

Eternal role: Guides of the Angelic Soul, charged with shuttling souls between the realms of the living and the dead

Character: The Kyrians are called to lives of everlasting service, organized and purposeful. Humility, justice, service, and righteousness are cherished by the Kyrians. Many who seek the Kyrian, who are not yet ready to assume everlasting service positions, unburden their souls to achieve renewed awareness through meditation and contemplation.

NecroLords
Maldraxxusus Main Realm:

Eternal role: the military defenders of the Shadowlands, defending the enemies of Destruction from foreign powers declaring war on them.

Character: Unrelenting and unyielding, the military arm of the Shadowlands is the Necrolords. Mental, emotional , and physical, they can be ruthless, and respect all flavors of strength and control. Expect to be sorely challenged to join their ranks, as the Necrolords believe in the survival of the fittest, meaning that defeat and exclusion are deserving of those who do not succeed. This may add to some viewing Maldraxxus as an evil world, but it is not inherently so. Energy, not theory, rules here.

Heroic Souls known to live in Maldraxxus: Draka, Thrall ‘s mother, assassinated shortly after giving birth by Gul’dan ‘s Shadow Council powers.

Night Fae
Ardenweald: The Main Domain

Eternal Role: Nature Guards, Shepherds of the Life and Death Cycle

Character: The Night Fae depicts the Wheel of Life’s autumn and winter cycles — the death and regeneration period that touches all areas of nature. They represent strong spirits in nature in a comparable capacity to the Kyrian, leading them from life to their worlds for absolute rest and rebirth. The Night Fae’s domains are a mirror of the Emerald Dream, and portions of their domains are closely related to the Drust. By this reconnection of all facets of nature, souls with close links to the natural world will achieve regeneration.

Cenarius, who was tainted by the Nightmare and purified in the Emerald Nightmare, is believed to live in Ardenweald: Valiant Souls.

Venthyr
Revendreth: Main Domain
Punishers of the Unworthy: Everlasting Task

Character: Shadowlands are served by the vampiric Venthyr as those who pursue those souls weighted down by the weight of their faults — pride, rapaciousness, vanity, apathy. These souls may have been condemned to an afterlife in The Maw as irredeemable without the Venthyr to purge them of these burdens and allow them to atone, except for the spark of potential salvation contained within them. The Venthyr trains these souls for one of two fates — learning to harness their powers to become a Covenant punisher or to lighten their spirits to move on to another Covenant and begin their everlasting quest.

Kael’thas Sunstrider, the former Lord of the Blood Elves, who died in Magister’s Terrace after slipping from favor following the Legion, is known to live in Venthyr.

Campaigns for Covenants

There is a separate Covenant Initiative for each of the four Covenants that dives further into the Covenant narrative and exposes more of their motives, challenges, and ambitions. Your Covenant Sanctum will present you and learn how to start unlocking its mysteries.

Via the game, as well as through different assignments and gathering Anima, you can also begin to gain Renown.

What about Renown?

You would need to gain Renown in order to advance within the frameworks of your chosen Covenant. This Covenant-specific, calculated, level-level method tests your success toward your preferred Covenant in earning favor.

In fact, Renown is considered a currency, so it will be stored on your tab on Currency. For each of the covenants, distinct currencies also seem to exist: Renown-Kyrian, Renown-NightFae, Renown-Necrolord, and Renown-Venthyr. The unique currencies of the Covenant should not be banked and later exchanged in for another Covenant’s renown.

Renown is not an open-ended grind, unlike Azerite strength. It is based upon the fight for the Covenant and two weekly quests. Unlike the influence of Azerite, there will also be a weekly limit on how much renown you will earn.

Higher Credibility will:
Expand ties with Soulbinds
Increase the full potential of the Sanctum ‘s functionality
Increase the level of artifacts collected from World Quests
Unlock a broad spectrum of attributes, including prizes, quests, fans, cosmetics, etc.
Offer access to recipes for the Torghast Runecrafter, including Legendary Runeforging recipes
Enable you to acquire unique Covenant objects such as mounts, dogs, a title, transmogs of back attachment, and transmog armor
In order to unlock flying in Shadowlands, Renown will also play an important part in winning the Pathfinder achievement.
Various reward levels will unlock as you gain levels. The multiple thresholds at which functions activate are seen in an example of the Renown UI:

Renown Receiving

You must complete weekly targets provided by two quests per week in your Sanctum to gain Renown. The first quest asks you to deposit your Sanctum pool with a certain volume of Anima. The second weekly search takes you to the Maw to redeem souls that belong to the Covenant properly.

To summarize, three ways to obtain renown are available:

Full chapters in the campaign for the Covenant.
Deliver given Anima quantities once per week.
Rescue deserving souls once a week from the Maw.
For Alts and for players who have modified Covenants, there would be a catch-up scheme. Through dungeons, raids, PvP, and calls, these characters will be able to gain extra renown once they have surpassed the current limit.

Sanctums Covenant
The Covenant Sanctums are intended to be a base of operations for your max-level characters, similar to Draenor’s Garrisons and Class Halls of Legion. You will need to build and reactivate areas of your Sanctum whose forces and capabilities have been lost to your Covenant as a result of the Shadowlands upheavals and the loss of Anima. You can gain rewards and improve access to your opportunities within your zone by restoring these areas to full functionality.

These will also be the foundation of your Covenant Campaign operations, as well as the place where you pick up your two weekly quests to raise Renown within the Covenant and develop your force.
Where you do not belong, you will not join the Sanctum of the Covenant. They’ll eject Interlopers.

There are three structures in common to each Sanctum, and one special to the Covenant:

Benefits and Covenant Rewards
Covenant Special Abilities: Ability to Signature, Class Battle
Every Covenant gives two special skills to its followers:
A signature skill common to all Covenant members
A capacity for class combat common to all members of a specific class within the Covenant
The fighting skill represents the essence of the Covenant as well.

Covenant Special Abilities: Bonuses for the Dungeon
Within a dungeon associated with its home territory, every Covenant has special powers. These incentives give all members of their party incentives and benefits, so only one member of the Covenant is required to reap the benefits.

Overview of Covenant Dungeon Benefit
Summon Steward uses Kyrian The Necrotic Wake to fix a golem that drops 5 Anima Orbs, providing players with temporary speed, damage, and healing buffs.
Recover and throw Spear of Destiny, which hits all enemies within 8 yards, shocking them and rendering them 20 percent more vulnerable to damage for 10 seconds.
Necrolord Theater of Pain Click 3 Necrolord Banners to provide Necrolord’s Chosen Banners with a 5-minute 10 percent speed and versatility buff,
Plaguefall Special bonuses for buffs, AoE damage proc aura, 15 percent haste aura, and 10 percent harm reduction aura when using Fleshcraft on such mobs or corpses.
Tirna Scithe Night Fae Mists Opens a new path, exposes a mushroom grove providing players with temporary status boosts, opens resurrection checkpoints within the dungeon
Requires the use of Haunted Urns for a large AoE stun (Haunted Urn) at fixed locations, 30 yds for 10 sec.
Venthyr Sanguine Depths Activate Anima Cages with Anima Drain to debuff enemies within 40 yds. After 20 seconds, for every enemy who died in range with Anima Drain enabled, it will deactivate and give a whole party 1 stack of Sinfall Boon.
Halls of Atonement You can use the Loyal Stoneborn action button to make Loyal Stoneborn Friendly turn aggressive, then fight for 30 seconds for the group and fly away. Stoneborn Boon, which gives the group a 30-second 10% damage mitigation buff, is also awarded.

Soulbinds and Conduits of Covenant
When you are involved in your Covenant, you have the ability to ally with your chosen side and draw on the forces of the denizens. Each Covenant will have three members and creatures of the Covenant that you will form a Soulbind with. You will have access to two of these Soulbind characters when you first enter a Covenant, and will have a chance to unlock a third via an epic Covenant quest.

It doesn’t make the denizen a bodyguard, like the Warlords of Draenor or Legion supporters. It is more similar to getting the advantages available in the framework of artifact weapons, without something you need to bring around and it is not connected to a specific spec.

Soulbinds empower you to share power in order to increase your own skills with a selected Covenant denizen. In accordance with Soulbinds, there is also a new type of item called a Conduit that allows you to alter some of the Soulbind ‘s core powers and activate various choices along the way. It’s a kind of customization of power that you can modify to suit your own needs and style of play.

Soulbinds, a mechanism that is close to swapping abilities, would be able to turn. Therefore, it might be beneficial to explore the possibilities and Soulbind of whatever alternatives present themselves along the way to you.

Blizzard initially revealed that Conduits would be destroyed upon replacement, but they were persuaded by player input to come up with a new system. Instead, they’re going to have a Persistent Collection System housed in your Sanctum covenant that will allow you to hold, update, and swap saved conduits (this seems to be reminiscent of the current Essence system).

Conduits can only be replaced once a week, and the requirements will not change automatically. Each Soulbind will have a separate cooldown of his own.

Covenant-unique armor sets contain these. As an example, for each covenant, these are the Plate Armor Sets: Kyrian, Necrolords, Night Fae, and Venthyr:

As Transmogs, Using Covenant Armor
Only members of the Covenant will be open to Transmogs from Covenant sets. If you have more than one character that belongs to a particular Covenant, account-wide, any Covenant-specific transmogs should be accessible.

Selecting Your Covenant
Selecting your Covenant is dependent on many variables, including the ability of your class, preferred class Covenant ability, playstyle, aesthetics, and sensitivities to roleplay. Many people may tell you what your class “best” is, but what is best for one reason (mythic+, raiding) may not be best for another (solo questing, PvP, or roleplay). Based on several variables, it needs to be an individual decision, and one you need to make carefully. It’s easy to switch covenants; it’s another matter to switch back to one you’d previously entered and left.

Based on the personality and backstory you’ve created for your character, you might have a good idea of what Covenant you want. “Avoid falling into the pit that only for the Coalition is a clearly” positive “Covenant and only for the Horde is a clearly” evil “Covenant.

First of all, neither the Alliance nor the Horde nor the Four Covenants are “good” or “evil.” The Kyrian’s righteousness can also be inflexible, and the Venthyr’s retribution can be seen as the required salvation of a sullied soul that may have otherwise been sentenced to The Maw. An undead warrior who defended her charges with dignity could be a suitable candidate for the Kyrian, while in Revendreth, a dwarf paladin who committed crimes in his zeal for his personal conception of justice could find himself atoning for his pride. Avid roleplayers will have lots of fun agreeing on their characters’ ultimate fates!

How to Pick A Covenant
You will receive a question in Oribos Choosing Your Aim from Tal-Inara at 39.9, 70.0 in Oribos when you complete the zone campaigns on your first character and get to level 60. This will guide you to talk to the nearest four leaders of the Covenants:
Polemarch-Kyrian Adestres: 36.2, 64.22.
Necrolords-Draka Baroness: 43, 744
Night Fae-Moonberry Lady: 39.6, 60.9.
Venthyr-Draven general: 44.7, 68.8.
Near Tal-Inara, go to the Shadowlands Covenant Map and press. This will give you an option to select one of the four covenants. Switch on Choosing Your Goal.

The leader of the Covenant you have selected will have a quest for you after this. Before you head into your new home region, be sure to pick this up. Without it, you’re not going to get any of the entry quests to start opening the Sanctum. If you just go straight to the zone, then all you have to do is go back to Oribos and pick up the search.

How to change the Covenant
If you find yourself disliking the one you have selected, it would be possible to change the Covenants. It would not be a difficult process to leave one Covenant to join another, as long as the new Covenant is one which you have never joined before. If you want to rejoin a Covenant that you previously belonged to, the procedure becomes more complicated.
You have not previously joined in order to leave the existing Covenant and join one:

Go to Oribos and consult the Covenant leader you want to join.
Polemarch-Kyrian Adestres: 36.2, 64.22.
Necrolords-Draka Baroness: 43, 744
Night Fae-Moonberry Lady: 39.6, 60.9.
Venthyr-Draven general: 44.7, 68.8.

Pick up the search to get to your new Sanctum Covenant.
All your previous Covenant benefits, including abilities, transmogs, and soulbinds, you will lose access to.

To abandon the present Covenant to enter one to which you had previously belonged:
It is no easy accomplishment to rejoin a Covenant you once belonged to. Since the previous Covenant claims that you have committed an act of betrayal, you will once again be forced to show your loyalty to them. In this scenario, before you are allowed to enter again, you will need to complete two weekly quests (not in the same week).

When you have taken all the procedures to move, you can not formally abandon your Covenant.

The first step in rejoining a Covenant that you have already joined continues in the same procedure as before. Instead of getting a quest to go to your new sanctum, however, you get a new quest instead,
Kyrian: Prove Your Worth in Bastion-Full activities.
Necrolord: Prove Your Worth in Maldraxxus-Full assignments and World Quests. (This is the only quest with World Quest criteria at the moment)
Night Fae: Prove Your Merit-Full Ardenweald assignments.
Venthyr: Prove Your Worth in Revendreth-Full assignments.
The criteria for completing this quest route are rigid; a percentage bar of cumulative tasks, including uncommon, uncommon elites, treasures, world missions, regular bosses, and dungeon bosses, must be accomplished. There is also a minimum of 8 World Quests required. (Pet World Quests do not appear to be credited with either the percentage or the completion of the 8 World Quests).

Both of these must be finished within the home zone of your Covenant or in dungeons connected with the area of your Covenant.

The dungeons linked with each region of the Covenant are as follows:
Bastion – Kyrian: Necrotic Wake, Spires of Ascension Maldraxxus – Necrolord: Plaguefall, Theater of Pain Ardenweald – Night Fae: Mists of Tirna Scithe, De Other Side Revendreth – Venthyr: Halls of Atonement, Sanguine Depths
To complete the task of moving to the previously-joined Covenant, this will be followed by a second weekly search you must complete.

WARNING: Covenant Preference is not a method of forgiving. And if you only do a quick back-and-forth, you are automatically penalized for attempting to rejoin a Covenant you entered earlier. For starters, if you chose Necrolord initially and don’t even talk to Draka, then go to the Kyrian and join them, and then change your mind and talk to Draka to rejoin the Necrolords, you will automatically be faced with trying to prove your worth. Think and carefully make your choices!

Threads of fate-Option of covenant for level 50 Alts
If you have gotten one player to level 60 that has achieved the Shadowlands Loremaster accomplishment by finishing all the zone campaigns, any future alt player you put to will be able to select a Covenant even earlier and focus on Covenant-specific operations automatically. Or, you can opt to repeat the plot instead, much as you did with your lead character. The range is yours!

This doesn’t happen straight out of the start, though. By going to Icecrown Citadel, and then leading a group to flee the Maw, your level 50 alts would need to complete the Maw Introductory Quest LIne through the first steps of the character’s journey. After the character has survived the Maw and landed safely in Oribos, the election for Covenants arrives.

While at Oribos, Fatescribe Roh-Tahl, who offers the Threads of Fate quest, will reach the player, where you will select one of two choices.
The Threads of Fate
You automatically pick a Covenant.
Level up completing world missions, regular missions / Covenant, side quests, goals for prizes, and dungeons.
There will be no key plot line available,
You can’t go back to the Replay Plot and this decision is final.
Replay Story
Replay the main plot of the original, just as you did for the first character.
At level 60, you can pass through the covenant campaigns and pick a Covenant.
You can change your mind-you can go to the Fatesinger at any moment, and instead submit Threads of Destiny.

Players that chose a Covenant would join the Shadowlands directly in the state it will be in if the campaign had been finished, with new Bonus Targets available in the areas where the Campaign would have been fought. For each of the regions, lucrative zone-wide goals, like Covenant Callings, world missions, bonus goals, side quests, dungeons, rares, and treasures. Since they would have been playing with the plot, they would not be able to revisit the Zone Campaigns.

The choice of making alts go through Covenants or opting to go into the plot was not part of the initial idea, but because of player input, Blizzard added it. Some players figured they needed the story to be relived, or didn’t have a clear idea of which Covenant they wanted to join their character.
