Temple of the Jade Serpent Dungeon Guide: Location, Boss Strategies, Trash, and Loot

The Temple of the Jade Serpent is a dungeon in Pandaria for players at level 70. It can be found on the east coast of The Jade Forest, with the nearest flight point being Jade Temple Grounds. To get to the dungeon, head north from the landing spot until you find the entrance. In this guide, we’ll provide a detailed overview of the dungeon, including information on all four boss fights and notable trash mobs, with a focus on completing the dungeon on Mythic and Mythic Keystone difficulty. Without further ado, let’s begin!

Temple of the Jade Serpent Entrance

This comprehensive guide will provide crucial information to help you complete Temple of the Jade Serpent on Mythic and Mythic Keystone difficulty. It covers all four boss fights and the most significant trash mobs in the dungeon, including their key abilities. If you’re interested in learning about other Dragonflight Dungeons or the upcoming Mythic+ season, check out our related overviews. Now, let’s get started!

Boss order in Temple of the Jade Serpent

The order in which you choose to defeat the bosses in Temple of the Jade Serpent is entirely up to you. However, it is worth noting that Liu Flameheart and Sha of Doubt will only become available once you have defeated the first two bosses, Wise Mari and Lorewalker Stonestep. Here is our recommended boss order:

Fountain of the Overseeing and Wise Mari

Notable Trash Before Wise Mari

As you begin the dungeon, make a left turn and proceed towards Wise Mari. While the distance is not far, there are several highly dangerous trash mobs to watch out for:

  • Although Corrupt Droplets are non-elites, they will continuously cast Splash Icon Splash, dealing AoE damage to all players. You cannot interrupt the cast, but you can stun and quickly nuke them.
  • Use all of your group interrupts towards Fallen Waterspeaker and its Hydrolance Icon Hydrolance + Tidal Burst Icon Tidal Burst casts. We advise to use stun effects to cover up if you lack the interrupts!
  • Corrupt Living Water is the most dangerous trash mob in this area, pay attention to its Tainted Ripple Icon Tainted Ripple cast as it does serious initial damage, plus it will apply an additional damage-over-time effect. You can line of sight the cast if you are quick enough! At last, sidestep the Surging Deluge Icon Surging Deluge ground animation.

Wise Mari Boss Guide

Wise Mari

All Roles

  • Assigned an interrupt order for Hydrolance Icon Hydrolance as it will be present throughout the fight.
  • Once you get targeted by the Corrupted Vortex Icon Corrupted Vortex, put the vortex ground animation away from your team at the end of the cast.
  • Watch out for the Corrupted Geyser Icon Corrupted Geyser; the water will appear “bubbly” a second before triggering the Corrupted Geyser Icon Corrupted Geyser ability.
  • Avoid being hit by the Wash Away Icon Wash Away cast at all costs. This ability is likely to turn deadly. Always pay attention to Corrupted Geyser Icon Corrupted Geyser, so you are not caught by surprise!

Tank

  • As there is not any tank-specific mechanic you need to deal with, you can help your team with assigning the interrupts for the Hydrolance Icon Hydrolance cast.

Healer

The Scrollkeeper’s Sanctum and Strife & Peril

Notable Trash Before Peril and Strife

Once you have defeated Wise Mari, head back to the starting point of the dungeon and make your way towards The Scrollkeeper’s Sanctum area, where you will encounter the second boss of the dungeon, Peril and Strife. Here is some information on the trash mobs you will face in this area:

  • Interrupt the Haunting Sha‘s Haunting Scream Icon Haunting Scream AoE Fear. If this ability goes through, there is a high probability of ninja polling other trash packs or simply wiping. The mob will also cast Haunting Gaze Icon Haunting Gaze on your tank, so keep him healthy at all costs!
  • Beware of Throw Torch Icon Throw Torch from Xiang and Jiang; they will occasionally throw it on a random target, dealing serious damage over time. Heads up, your Healer can dispel it!
  • Interrupt the Sleepy Soliloquy Icon Sleepy Soliloquy cast from The Talking Fish, it goes on a random player, and it will put them asleep for 6 sec.
  • Run away from the The Songbird Queen‘s Territorial Display Icon Territorial Display, it has 6 yards radius so pay close attention. In addition, your tank must pay close attention to Vicious Peck Icon Vicious Peck; it does high frontloaded damage and a follow-up Bleed effect.
  • Avoid the Tears of Pain Icon Tears of Pain ground puddles coming from The Crybaby Hozen. In addition, use your interrupts on Fit of Rage Icon Fit of Rage to stop the The Crybaby Hozen from further empowering itself.
  • Your tank must watch out for the stackable Staggering Blow Icon Staggering Blow debuff coming from The Golden Beetle. In addition, use Dispel or Purge effects once you see The Golden Beetle casting Golden Barrier Icon Golden Barrier, not only will it create an absorb shield, but also, upon breaking, it will deal massive damage to everyone within 40 yards.
  • The Nodding Tiger will always leap on the cast Savage Leap Icon Savage Leap on the furthest target, dealing initial damage and leaving a Bleed effect. Make sure to stop its Cat Nap Icon Cat Nap ability; otherwise, it will restore health every second.

Peril and Strife Boss Guide

Peril and Strife

During the fight, Peril and Strife will cast a few abilities that require specific positioning and attention:

  1. Shadowy Strike: Deals moderate shadow damage to the current target and increases the damage taken from Shadowy Strike by 100% for 15 seconds. This ability should be interrupted whenever possible.
  2. Entropic Strike: Deals high physical damage to the current target and reduces healing received by 50% for 10 seconds. This ability should also be interrupted whenever possible.
  3. Energize: Every 30 seconds, Peril and Strife will become immune to damage and begin casting Energize, which will restore their health and increase their damage dealt by 100% for 10 seconds. You must use the time during this immune phase to swap targets and allow one of them to suffer from Dissipation.
  4. Elemental Conduit: At certain intervals, Peril or Strife will channel Elemental Conduit, which will summon two Elemental adds. These adds must be killed as soon as possible to prevent them from casting Chain Lightning and causing massive group-wide damage.

Make sure to use all available crowd control abilities on the trash mobs in this area, as they can quickly overwhelm your group. Additionally, make sure to keep your party topped off on health as the bosses hit quite hard.

All Roles

  • Do not use cleave abilities, else you will risk each of the bosses to gain a stack of Intensity Icon Intensity. Using direct attacks is the best source of damage. We are uncertain at this point if damage-over-time effects (Bleeds included) trigger Intensity, as soon as we know, we will update the guide.
  • If you have high stacks of the Feeling of Superiority Icon Feeling of Superiority, use a defensive cooldown!

Tank

  • Hold aggro on both targets to avoid your team from being accidentally cleaved.

Healer

  • Both Strife and Peril will continuously cast Agony Icon Agony throughout the entire fight, a good place to use your healing cooldowns is when either of the bosses has high stacks of Intensity Icon Intensity.
  • Watch out for the Feeling of Superiority Icon Feeling of Superiority buff, if your party member has a high stack, spot-heal them.

Terrace of the Twin Dragons and Liu Flameheart

Notable Trash Before Liu Flameheart

There are two new trash mobs that you will encounter in the Terrace of the Twin Dragons: the Animated Warrior and Water Sprite. The Animated Warrior hits fairly hard and will need to be tanked properly. When it dies, it splits into four smaller versions that deal less damage but still need to be dealt with. Water Sprites can be tricky to deal with as they are small and can be hard to target, but they deal AoE damage that must be avoided.

You will also encounter some old enemies from earlier in the dungeon: the Jade Guardian and Temple Defender. The Jade Guardian is a stone statue that will occasionally cast Jade Tempest, which deals a large amount of damage to all players within its range. The Temple Defender is a heavily armored humanoid that should be tanked properly and interrupted when casting its Shield Slam ability.

  • Shambling Infester is the only “mini-boss” in this dungeon. The trash mob has significantly more health than the rest of the mobs so it will take much longer to defeat. Make sure you sidestep his Flames of Doubt Icon Flames of Doubt frontal cone ability (or out-range if you are further than 25 yards away) and use defensives if you have low health during the Summon Sha Icon Summon Sha cast. Remember, once you defeat the Lesser Sha they will cast Sha Eruption Icon Sha Eruption.
  • Run avoid from the Sha-Touched Guardians Leg Sweep Icon Leg Sweep cast, it will deal damage to everyone within 6 yards from it. In addition, the trash mob will strike your tank with Setting Sun Kick Icon Setting Sun Kick, which not only going to deal high initial damage but also apply a 20% healing debuff to your tank, so watch out!
  • Depraved Mistweaver is the only important caster in this area, interrupt its Defiling Mist Icon Defiling Mist and watch out for Touch of Ruin Icon Touch of Ruin (since it is a Curse effect, you can use any de-cursing ability or just defensive to survive it).
  • Avoid Minion of Doubt‘s Shattered Resolve Icon Shattered Resolve ground orbs. In addition, the trash mob will cast Dark Claw Icon Dark Claw to the highest threat target (your tank), make sure you keep them healthy at all costs!

Liu Flameheart Boss Guide

Liu Flameheart

During the Serpent Dance phase (100% to 70%), Liu Flameheart will use abilities such as Cleansing Flame and Flame Wave. Players should make sure to spread out during Cleansing Flame to avoid taking too much damage, and also avoid standing in front of the boss during Flame Wave. In addition, periodically throughout this phase, Liu will cast Serpent Strike, which will knock back all players within a certain range, so be prepared to move.

During the Jade Serpent Dance phase (70% to 30%), Liu Flameheart will use abilities such as Summon Jade Serpent Statue and Jade Serpent Wave. The Jade Serpent Statue will periodically heal the boss, so players should focus on destroying it as quickly as possible. Jade Serpent Wave will target a random player, and after a short delay, it will create a line of jade energy that travels towards that player. All players should avoid standing in the path of the wave.

Finally, during The Jade Serpent phase (30% to 0%), Liu Flameheart will use abilities such as Jade Tempest and Rain of Fire. Players should spread out during Jade Tempest to avoid taking too much damage, and move out of the way of any falling meteors during Rain of Fire. Additionally, periodically throughout this phase, Liu will cast Jade Inferno, which will create a large circular area of effect that deals significant damage to anyone standing inside it. Players should move out of this area as quickly as possible.

It’s worth noting that during all phases, Liu Flameheart will periodically spawn adds such as Jinyu Flamebinders and Jinyu Waterspeakers. Players should focus on killing these adds quickly, as they can deal significant damage to the party if left unchecked.

All Roles

  • Dodge the incoming Serpent Wave Icon Serpent Waves during Phase 1 (Serpent Dance phase).
  • Dodge the incoming Jade Serpent Wave Icon Jade Serpent Waves during Phase 2 (Jade Serpent Dance phase. In addition, the Jade Serpent Wave Icon Jade Serpent Waves will leave a trail of lingering pools; avoid them at all costs as they deal damage each second you stay in.
  • Avoid the Jade Fire Breath Icon Jade Fire Breath frontal during Phase 3 (The Jade Serpent phase).

Tank

  • Watch out for Serpent Kick Icon Serpent Kick; the boss will cast that on you as soon as she is finished casting Serpent Strike Icon Serpent Strike (During Phase 1).
  • Watch out for Jade Serpent Strike Icon Jade Serpent Strike; the initial damage and the follow-up absorb effect will put you to the test.
  • As soon as Liu Flameheart is done casting Jade Serpent Strike Icon Jade Serpent Strike, she will follow up with Jade Serpent Kick Icon Jade Serpent Kick, it will knock all players within 9 yards, so be prepared with active mitigation to avoid dying.
  • Beware how you position yourself during Phase 3, as the boss will cast Jade Fire Breath Icon Jade Fire Breath based on your location.
  • Watch out for her Jade Fire Icon Jade Fire during Phase 3 of the boss fight; you want to be healthy at all times.

Healer

  • Dispel the Serpent Strike Icon Serpent Strike debuff from your tank during the Phase 1 (Serpent Dance phase).
  • Pay attention to Jade Serpent Strike Icon Jade Serpent Strike during Phase 2 (Jade Serpent Dance Phase), it will deal initial damage to your tank and add an absorb effect; use your healing cooldowns to top them up quickly!

The Heart of Jade and Sha of Doubt

Sha of Doubt Boss Guide

Sha of Doubt

The Sha of Doubt is the final boss of Temple of the Jade Serpent dungeon. This encounter is a single-phase fight, but it can be very challenging. The boss will spawn multiple adds throughout the fight, and it is important to handle them correctly.

The boss will also place a debuff on random players called Mark of Silence, which can be dispelled by other players within close proximity. Failing to dispel this debuff can result in the affected player being silenced for a long period of time, which can be deadly.

Additionally, the boss will spawn multiple adds, such as Manifestations of Doubt and Corrupted Fragment. These adds should be quickly killed by the group, as they can deal significant damage and cause chaos in the group.

Lastly, the boss will cast Bane on a random player, which will deal damage to the player and those around them. Players who are affected by this debuff should immediately move away from the group to avoid causing unnecessary damage to other players.

By following these tips and staying aware of the boss’s abilities, you should be able to defeat the Sha of Doubt and complete Temple of the Jade Serpent dungeon.

All Roles

  • During Bounds of Reality Icon Bounds of Reality, use defensives and stack up altogether. This way, you can easily cleave your Figments of Doubt simultaneously before they siphon enough energy. Keep in mind; if they reach maximum energy, they will deal AoE damage to all players and heal Sha of Doubt for 10% of its total health. A side note, you can use stun effects on them!
  • If you do not get dispelled from your Touch of Nothingness Icon Touch of Nothingness debuff, use personal defensive.

Tank

  • Do your best to stack the existing Figments of Doubt so your DPS can cleave all of them simultaneously.

Healer

  • Sha of Doubt will occasionally cast Touch of Nothingness Icon Touch of Nothingness, be ready to dispel 1 target off their debuff and spot-heal the other one.
  • Watch out for Wither Will Icon Wither Will ability, the boss will cast it on 2 random players from your party, keep all of them healthy at all times!
