Alchemy Guide for WoW Burning Crusade Classic

What is Classic Alchemy in Burning Crusade?
The skill of distilling plants and other substances into beneficial Potions, Elixirs, Flasks, and the new Cauldrons is known as alchemy. It is also used to transmute raw gems into two Diamonds for Jewelcrafting, as well as to convert elemental Primals into other types of Primals (Primals are reagents used in many different profession recipes), in the same way that Transmutation is used to convert one type of elemental Essence to another.

The Cauldron is a new type of Alchemy product introduced in Burning Crusade Classic. Cauldrons of Major Arcane Protection, Cauldron of Major Fire Protection, Cauldron of Major Frost Protection, Cauldron of Major Nature Protection, and Cauldron of Major Shadow Protection are the five varieties. These produce up to 25 Major Protection potions matching to the Cauldron type, making them ideal for dispersing protection potions to whole raids. Cauldron recipes can only be discovered via Discovery, a new technique introduced in TBC as well.

TBC Alchemy’s trinkets are far superior to those found in Classic, however the greatest ones will most likely be revealed in a much later content patch. The Shattered Sun Offensive will unlock four epic-quality Alchemist Stone recipes.

Recipes for Learning by Doing
The Burning Crusade adds Alchemy recipe learning through Discovery, a technique in which a player has a tiny chance of learning a new recipe just by performing Alchemy combines.

There are Flask, Potion, and Transmute recipes that can only be learnt through Discovery, and they can be taught by mixing any TBC-era recipe — it doesn’t have to be done through Transmutes, or even the appropriate kind (ie. you can be combining potions and Discover a transmute, or vice versa). To discover one of these transmutes, you do not need to be at full level, have Transmute mastery, receive skill from the combine, or be physically standing in Outlands. It’s completely random by mixing any 300-375-era Burning Crusade recipe.

However, if you want to discover the five new Cauldron recipes, you will need to use a precise combination. Each Cauldron may make up to 25 different major protection potions, and the recipe can only be discovered by combining those potions. Discovering the formula for Cauldron of Major Shadow Protection, for example, can only be done by combining Major Shadow Protection Potion. Four of these Major Protection potions are obtained as drops from certain monsters or zones; Recipe: Major Nature Protection Potion is obtained after achieving Exalted with Cenarion Expedition. To study any of them, you must be at least level 360 in Alchemy.

Best Profession to Complement Alchemy
Herbalism is still the natural partner for Alchemy in the Outlands. Everything but Transmutes will necessitate the use of different Outlands plants.

Alchemy’s Best Races and Classes
Tauren have the Cultivation racial trait, which grants them +15 Herbalism skill. Druids are natural herbalists since they can harvest plants while traveling. Rogues make excellent Herbalists because they can slip past monsters and reach nodes that other players would have to battle for. As a result, these people are natural alchemists.

Alchemy is not restricted to any certain armor type or skill set, and it has the ability to benefit any class or race.

Alchemy Differences Between Retail and Burning Crusade Classic
The fundamental mechanics of Alchemy have not altered, however new items have been incorporated.
The act of discovering new Alchemy formulas was introduced in The Burning Crusade, but was discontinued after Mists of Pandaria. Surprisingly, Alchemy Discovery was not included in Cataclysm.
For learning valuable Alchemy formulas, TBC placed significantly greater importance on reputation dealers.

Cauldrons first appeared in TBC, however they are not included in Shadowlands or most later expansions.
There is no need for an Alchemy Lab in Shadowlands. The Alchemy Lab is still necessary to create one item in TBC: Alchemist’s Stone. One may be found in Shattrath with the Arakkoa at /way 43.3, 19.4; it’s on the lower floor of a two-story treehouse.

Quests for Mastery
It should be noted that mastery quests were not introduced until the TBC 2.2 release. We anticipate that they will not be available immediately upon publication.

The Mastery missions are introduced in The Burning Crusade, allowing you to become a Potion Master, Elixir Master, or Transmutation Master. When crafting certain things, a Potion Master can proc additional Potions. Elixir Masters can create more Elixirs or Flasks, while Transmutation Masters can create more Transmuted goods. To pick up the proper Mastery quest, players must be at least level 68.

You can only have one type of Mastery at a time, but you can change it by paying the quest giver for their current Mastery 150 and then talking to the quest giver for the new Mastery they want instead.

The following are the Mastery NPCs:
Potion Master: Lauranna Thar’well in Zangarmarsh’s Cenarion Refuge (/way 80.2 64.2).
Lorokeem in Lower City, Shattrath (/way 45.6 21.6) is the Elixir Master.
Zarevhi in Stormspire, Netherstorm (/way 44.0 36.6) is the Transmutation Master.

The missions for Elixir Master and Transmute Master begin with Alchemist Gribble in Honor Hold, Hellfire Penninsula (/way 53.8 65.8) or Apothecary Antonivich in Thrallmar, Hellfire Penninsula (/way 52.2 36.4).

Alchemy’s Reputation in the Burning Crusade Classic
In The Burning Crusade, there are various reputations that provide Alchemy formulas. The following is a list of all reputations that provide Alchemy recipes, the number of recipes they provide, and the maximum reputation level required to get them all. Please see the Alchemy Recipes guide for a list of reputation-related recipes:

Reputation# RecipesMax Reputation Level Needed
Honor Hold / Thrallmar2Honored
Kurenai / The Mag’har1Honored
Cenarion Expedition3Exalted
Lower City1Revered
Sporeggar2Exalted
The Scryers1Revered
The Sha’tar2Revered

It should be noted that the Shattered Sun Offensive will be implemented in Phase 5. These will be added in the future.

Should Alchemists Follow Aldor or Scryer’s Lead?
Scryer should not be chosen just because they are the only one having an Alchemy recipe. Before you make a decision, consider what The Aldor and The Scryers have to offer.
Enuril, Quartermaster:
Elixir of Major Firepower – Use: Increases the power of your Fire spell by 16 for 1 hour. Battle Elixir
You are not required to declare for either, but doing so will limit your options and flying points later on. You can alternatively swap sides and gain this recipe with The Scryers before switching back to The Aldor if it makes more sense.

Alchemy Item Creation
Alchemy can nearly always be performed anywhere, as long as the proper components are available. Outland still requires the usage of the Scholomance Alchemy Lab for two recipes: the trinkets Mercurial Stone and Alchemist’s Stone.

Alchemy potions, flasks, and elixirs, unlike Classic, only need one sort of vendor-purchased vial:
Infused Vial
Aside from that, you’ll need a lot of harvested components to produce Alchemy products. In the Alchemy Recipes handbook, there are lists of cultivated ingredients.

Several Alchemy Recipes are learnt via trainers, but you may also get them from drops, reputation sellers, and other places across the Outlands. Please see our separate guide linked below for additional information on where to discover all known Alchemy recipes in Outlands.

Alchemy Laboratory
The Alchemy Lab must still produce one item: the Alchemist’s Stone. One may be found in Shattrath with the Arakkoa at /way 43.3, 19.4; it’s on the lower floor of a two-story treehouse.
