Diablo 4 Season 12: Season of Slaughter Overview
Season 12 of Diablo 4 is called the Season of Slaughter, and it lives up to the name. This time around, Blizzard is letting you become the Butcher, the most iconic jump-scare monster in the franchise. On top of that, you get killstreaks pulled straight from Diablo 3, a new Bloodied gear system, and Slaughterhouse dungeons built specifically around the Butcher transformation. If you skipped Season 11, this is the one that pulls you back in.
Diablo 4 Season 12 Release Date
Season 12 launches on March 11, 2026 at 10:00 AM PDT. Season 11 (Season of Divine Intervention) ends right before that. The season is expected to run until approximately April 28, 2026, at which point we transition into the Lord of Hatred expansion and Season 13.
If you want to hit the ground running on day one, make sure your character is ready for endgame. Our Diablo 4 Leveling Boost gets you there without the grind.

Become the Butcher
For the first time in Diablo history, you actually get to play as the Butcher. This is not a cosmetic skin. You transform into the Butcher with a full set of Butcher-specific abilities and use them to mow down demons.
A Taste of Power Questline
Season 12 kicks off with a story questline called "A Taste of Power." It walks you through claiming the Butcher's abilities step by step. Think of it as a tutorial that gives you a feel for the new powers before you start tearing through the endgame content. Complete the questline to unlock the Butcher transformation for use in Helltides and Slaughterhouses.
Grisly Metamorphosis (Helltide Event)
Once you have the Butcher powers unlocked, you can trigger a special Helltide event called Grisly Metamorphosis. Find a Shrine of Slaughter during a Helltide, use a Meaty Offering on it, and you will summon wave after wave of enemies to slaughter in Butcher form. Clear the waves to earn rewards including Bloodied Items. This is going to be one of the most efficient Helltide farming methods in the season.
Killstreak System
Killstreaks are back from Diablo 3. Kill enemies fast enough, and your streak counter climbs through five tiers:
- Killstreak (starting tier)
- Carnage
- Devastation
- Bloodbath
- Massacre (maximum tier)
Higher tiers grant more bonus Experience and Seasonal Reputation. The key is to keep killing without long pauses between pulls. This mechanic rewards aggressive play: pull big, kill fast, keep moving. If you are pushing Paragon levels, killstreaks will be a significant XP source on top of your normal farming.
Need a head start on Paragon? Our Paragon Leveling service handles the grind so you can focus on the fun parts.
Bloodied Items
Bloodied Items are the new gear type for Season 12. What makes them special is that their affixes scale with your current Killstreak tier. The higher your killstreak, the stronger the gear performs. Bloodied can appear on both regular and Ancestral items, so it is not a separate rarity. Think of it as an extra quality tag.
There are three types of Bloodied Affixes:
| Affix | Slot | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Rampage | Armor | Raw power scales based on your current Killstreak tier. Higher tier = bigger stat boost. |
| Feast | Weapons | Combat bonuses based on total kills in your current streak. Stack kills, get rewarded. |
| Hunger | Jewelry | Customizes what your killstreaks give you. Scales with tier for bigger payoff. |
The best Bloodied gear will come from Bloodsoaked Sigil runs (more on that below), but you can also get them from the Grisly Metamorphosis event and Slaughterhouse dungeons.
Slaughterhouses
Slaughterhouses are Season 12's signature dungeons. When you enter one, you automatically transform into the Butcher for the entire run. Clear the dungeon, kill everything in sight, and you earn Fresh Meat, a seasonal currency. Spend Fresh Meat at a vendor in Gea Kul to gamble for Bloodied Items, similar to how Obols work with the Purveyor of Curiosities.
If you enjoy the Butcher power fantasy, these dungeons are where you will spend most of your time. They are also the primary farmable source for Fresh Meat, so expect them to be part of every efficient farming route.
Bloodied and Bloodsoaked Sigils
Two new Sigil types arrive in Season 12, both designed to crank up the difficulty for better rewards.
Bloodied Sigils
Bloodied Sigils work in Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes, and Lair Bosses. They add the Relentless Butcher affix, which makes enemies hit harder and spawns two Butchers simultaneously during the activity. The overall difficulty scales to roughly one Torment Tier above your chosen level. They only drop in Torment 1 and above.
Bloodsoaked Sigils
Bloodsoaked Sigils are the real endgame. They push difficulty to the equivalent of Pit Tier 100 and guarantee multiple Bloodied Item drops on completion. If you are chasing perfect Bloodied gear, these are the runs you want to farm. Expect them to be extremely challenging, and you will want an optimized build before attempting them.
Want to push the hardest content from day one? Our Pit of Artificers Boost and Endgame Bundle get your character geared and ready.
New Uniques in Season 12
Five new Unique items drop in Season of Slaughter. Three are usable by every class, and two are shared across specific classes.
| Unique | Classes | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blood-Mad Idol | All classes | Universal unique, likely synergizes with Bloodied mechanics |
| Wendigo Brand | All classes | Universal unique |
| Rustbitten Dirk | All classes | Universal unique |
| Wyrdskin | Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, Sorcerer | Multi-class armor piece |
| Thousand-Eye Reaver | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin | Multi-class weapon |
We will update this section with exact stats and best-in-slot analysis once Season 12 goes live and the community has time to test these items.
Permanent Changes Coming in Season 12
Not everything goes away when the season ends. These additions stick around forever:
- The Butcher as a Lair Boss -- Finally, you can fight the Butcher as a proper endgame boss encounter, not just a random surprise in a dungeon.
- New Tower Tile Sets and Bosses -- More variety in Tower runs means endgame stays fresh longer.
- Auto-Opening Dungeon Doors -- This one is pure quality of life. No more stopping to click doors between rooms. Small change, huge time save over hundreds of runs.
- Leaderboard Overhaul -- Updated ranking system. Details TBD.
Best Way to Start Season 12
Based on everything revealed so far, here is the optimal path for launch day:

- Rush to level 60 to unlock endgame content. The killstreak system rewards fast play, so leveling should feel quicker this season.
- Complete the "A Taste of Power" questline to unlock the Butcher transformation.
- Farm Slaughterhouses for Fresh Meat and spend it on Bloodied Item gambles.
- Push into Bloodied Sigil content once your build can handle Torment 1+.
- Target Bloodsoaked Sigils for best-in-slot Bloodied gear at Pit 100 difficulty.
