What Is the Gnome Heritage Armor?
The gnome heritage armor is a transmog set exclusive to gnome characters in World of Warcraft. The armor set is called Heritage of Gnomeregan and features a mechanical, industrial aesthetic with goggles, armor plates, and gears. It's one of the best-looking heritage armors for alliance players who want their gnome to look like a proper engineer.
The gnome heritage armor consists of 9 pieces: goggles, shoulders, cloak, chest, wristbands, gloves, belt, legs, and boots. Each piece is themed around the G.E.A.R. Commander (Gnomish Elite Aerial Rangers) military unit. You also get the G.E.A.R. Tracking Beacon as a bonus reward, which works like a Flight Master's Whistle but summons your personal G.E.A.R. airship.
Requirements to Unlock the Gnome Heritage Armor
Before you can even start the gnome heritage armor questline, you need to meet two hard requirements:
- Level 50+ Gnome character: You must be playing a gnome, not just any race. Humans, dwarves, and other alliance races cannot wear the gnome heritage armor.
- Exalted reputation with Gnomeregan: This is the real grind. You need to hit exalted status with Gnomeregan faction. This typically requires completing Gnomeregan world quests, dungeons, and reputation activities.
Once both requirements are met, you're eligible to start the gnome heritage armor quest chain. Check your Adventure Guide in-game to see your current Gnomeregan reputation status.
Quest Chain Walkthrough for Gnome Heritage Armor
The gnome heritage armor questline is relatively short, but you need to follow the steps in order.
Starting the Quest: Shifting Gears
Head to Stormwind and go to the Embassy (coordinates 54.7, 18.5). Talk to Ace Pilot Stormcog to pick up the quest "Shifting Gears." This is the initial quest that starts the entire chain.
Meeting Captain Sparknozzle
After accepting Shifting Gears, you need to travel to New Tinkertown (the gnome starting area) and meet Captain Sparknozzle. He briefs you on the G.E.A.R. initiative, an elite aerial ranger task force being funded by the Alliance.
Assembling Your Team
You'll work with three gnome pilots to test new aerial combat techniques. Your team members are Fizzie Tinkerbow, Cog Captain Winklespring, and Emaedi Autoblast. The questline involves aerial combat scenarios and mechanical challenges.
Visiting Gnomeregan Engineering Labs
You travel to Gnomeregan's Engineering Labs to gather materials and complete engineering trials. This section tests your gnome pride in actual engineering work.
Final Challenge at Fizzlecrank Airstrip
The last leg of the gnome heritage armor quest sends you to Fizzlecrank Airstrip in Borean Tundra. Here you complete final aerial combat tests and prove yourself worthy of the G.E.A.R. Commander armor set.
Receiving Your Armor
Once you finish the final quest, you receive all 9 pieces of the gnome heritage armor instantly. The transmog set is account-wide once unlocked, so alts can use it immediately.
Tips for Completing the Gnome Heritage Armor Chain
- Farm Gnomeregan reputation first: Don't start the quest chain until you're exalted. You'll waste time if you're stuck at revered waiting for rep. Focus on daily world quests that reward Gnomeregan rep.
- Do it on a level 50+ character: Any gnome at level 50 or higher can do the quests, but level 60+ makes combat faster if you get stuck.
- Keep your gear updated: The quests aren't difficult, but having current gear makes the aerial combat sections smoother.
- Use the Adventure Guide: If you lose a quest or forget where to go, the in-game Adventure Guide shows your progress and gives you waypoints to the next objective.
- Group up for challenging moments: Most of the gnome heritage armor questline is solo-able, but if you hit a tough aerial combat scenario, grab a friend to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do the gnome heritage armor questline on a different race?

How long does the gnome heritage armor questline take?
