What Is the Worgen Heritage Armor?
Worgen heritage armor is the race-specific transmog set you unlock by completing a storyline questline exclusive to Worgen characters. This is the "Heritage of Gilneas" armor set, added in patch 8.3 during Battle for Azeroth. The worgen heritage armor reflects the identity of Gilneas and the curse that transformed them into their current form.
The set looks completely different depending on your character's form. In human form, you see the elegant garb of Gilneas nobility. Requirements to Unlock
The barrier to entry is straightforward but requires time commitment:
- Level 50 Worgen character: You need a max-level (or at least level 50) Worgen to pick up the questline
- No reputation requirement: Contrary to older information, you do NOT need exalted with Gilneas anymore. This requirement was removed in patch 10.1, making worgen heritage armor much more accessible
- Access to Stormwind: You'll start the chain at the Stormwind Embassy, so you need to be able to reach that location
Realistically, the only real blocker is getting a Worgen to max level. That's where most players hit a wall, not the questline itself.
Quest Chain Walkthrough
The worgen heritage armor questline has eight quests total. It's entirely solo-friendly and can be completed in 20-30 minutes if you know where to go.
- The Shadow of Gilneas - Pick this up from Courier Claridge outside the Stormwind Embassy. He'll point you toward Tess Greymane.
- Into Duskwood - Travel to Duskwood where you'll meet with Tess and her family in the Stormwind Keep gardens.
- Bane of the Nightbane - Combat quest. You'll face some adds, nothing difficult for a max-level character.
- Cry to the Moon - Narrative moment where the curse and Worgen identity become central to the story.
- The Spirit of the Hunter - Interact with the environment and NPCs to progress the Gilneas storyline.
- Waking a Dreamer - Another combat or interactive phase. Just follow the quest markers.
- Let Sleeping Wolves Lie - Closing act of the chain, more story than mechanics.
- The New Guard - Final quest. Turn this in and you get the worgen heritage armor transmog set.
If you get stuck on a quest, a known issue is NPCs phasing out. Relog or restart the game client to fix it. Disabling addons temporarily also works if phasing bugs your progress.
Tips for Completing the Chain
- Do it in one session: The worgen heritage armor chain flows as one story, so knocking it out in 30 minutes is easier than spreading it across multiple logins. You'll understand the narrative better too.
- Be aware of phasing: If Goldrinn or other key NPCs disappear, relog immediately. Don't waste time troubleshooting in-game; just restart and continue.
