WoW Forever Overview: Zones, Dungeons, Raids & New Features

What Is WoW Forever

WoW Forever is the next major expansion for World of Warcraft, launching November 4, 2026 at 3:00 PM PST. This is Blizzard's return to vanilla-inspired gameplay, with a permanent level 60 cap and no flying, creating a classic experience that rewards exploration, grouping, and community. Think of WoW Forever as a fresh start that captures what made the original game legendary, without the systems bloat of modern expansions.

The expansion brings four massive new zones, nine dungeons, three raid tiers launching December 9, and the entirely new Skyborne race. Unlike other expansions, WoW Forever strips back complexity, removes auto-grouping tools, and brings back the old-school feeling of gathering your raid in chat. No flying means every zone remains relevant. No level scaling means your progression stays meaningful.

If you've been waiting for WoW to feel like WoW again, WoW Forever is that call.

New Zones in WoW Forever

WoW Forever adds four new zones, each with distinct gameplay and progression paths. These aren't just leveling content; they're endgame hubs and exploration goals that will keep you busy long after level 60.

Zone Level Range Notable Features
Zephras Isle 1-12 Skyborne starting zone. Floating island in the Skywall with wind-themed quests and race introductions.
Riverglades 35-45 Frontier grasslands with 150+ quests. Accessible via Steamwheedle boat to Powderfuse Port. Major hub for mid-game progression.
Shen'Dralas 35-45 (estimated) Mid-tier zone nestled between Mulgore and Desolace. Features Shen'dralar elves and active centaur warfare. Rich lore and dungeons.
Mount Hyjal 60 (Endgame) Post-Archimonde endgame zone and home to Hyjal Summit raid. Expect challenging enemies and world bosses.

Riverglades is the content hub for levels 35-45. It's reachable only by boat, reinforcing the zone's isolated frontier feeling. Shen'Dralas brings the rich lore of the Shen'dralar elves and their conflicts with centaur forces, giving mid-level players narrative weight alongside their power progression.

Mount Hyjal is where your journey reaches its peak. This isn't just a raid zone; it's a full endgame hub where guilds farm materials, hunt world bosses, and prepare for progression raids. The zone design reflects the aftermath of Archimonde's assault, creating a unique atmosphere.

All 9 New Dungeons

WoW Forever launches with nine dungeons, ensuring fresh content for every level bracket from 13 to 60. No dungeon finder means you'll need to gather your group manually, promoting server community and meaningful grouping.

Dungeon Name Level Range Location
Hall of Thanes 13-18 Beneath Ironforge
Ruins of Lordaeron 15-20 Lordaeron
Excavation Site 24-29 Whelgar's Excavation, Wetlands
City of Dalaran 28-33 Dalaran (altered for dungeons)
The Drowned City 35-40 Stranglethorn coast
Krol'dok Stronghold 40-45 Riverglades
Alcaz Prison 48-53 Alcaz Island, Dustwallow Marsh
Blackmaw Hold 55-60 North Azshara
Shaper's Terrace 58-60 Un'goro Crater

The dungeon progression is carefully tuned. Early dungeons like Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron serve as introductions to grouping and mechanics. Mid-tier dungeons like The Drowned City and Alcaz Prison provide the backbone of gear progression from levels 35-55. Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace are the final pre-raid dungeons where your group learns to execute mechanics before stepping into raids.

Each dungeon has unique loot, boss mechanics, and lore connections. Running dungeons repeatedly isn't just gearing; it's learning your class's role and building chemistry with your team. This is how guilds form in WoW Forever. Need a hand with the toughest ones? Check out our Hall of Thanes Boost, Excavation Site Boost, and City of Dalaran Boost.

Raids in WoW Forever

Raid progression launches December 9, 2026, one month after expansion launch. This staggered release ensures the community has time to gear up in dungeons and understand their classes before stepping into raid content.

WoW Forever offers three raid tiers spanning 10, 20, and 40-player content:

  • Barrow Deeps: 10-player introductory raid. The easiest tier, perfect for casual guilds getting raid experience.
  • Hyjal Summit: 20-player mid-tier raid. More demanding mechanics and coordination, substantial gear upgrades.
  • Onyxia's Lair: 40-player endgame raid. The returning classic encounter, now the ultimate challenge. This is where hardcore guilds prove themselves.

The staggered tier structure means your guild can progress at your own pace. Casual raiders can farm Barrow Deeps indefinitely. Serious raiders push Hyjal and Onyxia. No single raid feels mandatory; instead, you choose your level of commitment and clear accordingly.

Raid loot is raid-exclusive. You cannot overgear a dungeon and skip progression. Every tier teaches you mechanics you'll need in the next, building skill naturally across the expansion. Our Onyxia's Lair, Hyjal Summit, and Barrow Deeps carries will be available when raids launch December 9.

The Skyborne Race

The Skyborne are wind-touched elves, an entirely new race with its own starting zone, racials, and lore. They represent a neutral faction that chooses Horde or Alliance at character creation, offering an engaging new perspective on the faction conflict.

Skyborne Appearance and Lore

The Skyborne hail from Zephras Isle, a floating island in the Skywall. Centuries of exposure to wind magic has shaped them into elegant, ethereal beings. Their culture values elemental harmony and sky-navigation. When you create a Skyborne, your introduction cinematic establishes your attachment to the skies before you choose your faction.

Skyborne Classes

Skyborne can be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids regardless of faction. Alliance-only Skyborne can be Mages. Horde-only Skyborne can be Shamans. This structure maintains class fantasy while giving Skyborne meaningful class diversity. You cannot be a Skyborne Priest, Paladin, Warlock, or Monk.

Skyborne Racials

  • Walk on Air: 10-second glide ability. Extremely powerful for exploration and PvP escape.
  • Wind Blessed: +1% haste to all abilities. Permanent passive boost.
  • Elemental Insight: +5% damage against elemental creatures. Useful in specific encounters.
  • Skysight (Horde only): +10% run speed. Incredible for mobility.
  • Read Ley Line (Alliance only): 100% HP and mana regeneration while stationary. Strong for survivability.

These racials are competitive with other races. The glide and haste give Skyborne an edge in soloing and leveling speed. In group content, the utility is modest but appreciated.

Skyborne Unlock Requirements

Playing Skyborne requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99) or higher. The Epic Pack ($59.99) includes beta access. This is Blizzard's way of making the race feel exclusive while keeping it accessible to all players.

Legacy System Overview

The Legacy System is an account-wide progression mechanic that rewards you for leveling alts, raiding, and pushing PvP ranks. You earn Legacy Points by completing activities; you spend those points to unlock permanent bonuses across your entire account.

How Legacy Points Work

You earn 65 Legacy Points total across your account. You can spend up to 16 of those points on active bonuses. This creates meaningful choices: which bonuses matter most to your playstyle?

Sources of Legacy Points include leveling new classes to 60, maxing tradeskills, reaching high PvP ranks, clearing dungeons and raids on multiple characters, and event completions. The system rewards players who explore multiple classes and content types. Fast-track your Legacy Points with our Powerleveling, Professions Boost, and Honor Farming services.

Three Legacy Trees

  • Adventure Tree: XP bonuses, dungeon loot improvements, raid progression boosts.
  • Professions Tree: Crafting speed, material yield, recipe unlocks, cooking XP.
  • Resourcefulness Tree: Bag space, movement speed, resource gathering efficiency, repair costs.

Each tree has multiple tiers. Early tiers offer fundamental bonuses like +5% XP. Late tiers offer niche benefits like "dungeons drop an additional green item." Plan your spending to match your goals: speedrunners prioritize Adventure, crafters prioritize Professions, and quality-of-life players spread across all three.

Read the detailed WoW Forever Legacy System guide to optimize your point spending for your playstyle.

Camping System

The Camping System lets you craft campsites anywhere in the world. Once you place a campsite, other players can approach it and use tradeskills to add buffs. A cook at your campsite grants XP bonuses. A blacksmith might repair your gear.

This is intentionally social. It creates natural meeting points in the world. Guilds will farm around campsites. Solo players benefit from encountering others. It's a genuine community feature, not a cosmetic one.

Camping is not mandatory for progression; it's an optional bonus for players who want to engage with world content. The buffs are meaningful but not game-breaking. Set up a campsite before a dungeon run with your guild, grab a cooking buff, and gain a tangible edge.

Professions Overview

WoW Forever launches with 600+ new recipes across all professions. Cooking is special: it grants XP bonuses, making it a genuine progression tool, not just for consumables. First Aid has been reintroduced as a profession, removing bleeds, diseases, and poisons in and out of combat. Enchanters craft endgame equipment, making enchanting a raid-mandatory profession for some specs.

For more details, see our WoW Forever Best Professions guide covering optimal profession pairs for each class and endgame strategy.

Editions and Pricing

WoW Forever offers three editions at launch, each with different bonuses and pricing. Choose based on your commitment level and interest in beta testing.

Edition Price Includes
Skyborne Heroic Pack $29.99 Playable Skyborne race (all classes available with restrictions), cosmetic items, 7-day XP boost
Skyborne Epic Pack $59.99 Heroic Pack contents, beta access (Sep 17 - Oct 21), exclusive cosmetics, 30-day XP boost
Warcraft Forever Collection $79.99 Epic Pack contents, Warcraft 3: Reforged (separate game), 30 days of game time, ultimate cosmetics

The Heroic Pack is the entry point for most players. You get Skyborne and a modest XP boost. The Epic Pack is ideal if you want beta testing experience or love cosmetics. The Warcraft Forever Collection is for completionists and longtime Warcraft fans.

Base game owners (no extra edition) can still play WoW Forever with traditional races and classes. Skyborne is the premium race, not mandatory.

Server Types at Launch

WoW Forever launches with three server types: PvP, PvE, and Roleplay. Choose based on your preferred playstyle. PvP servers allow open-world PvP; PvE servers disable it. Roleplay servers enforce RP norms and naming conventions.

Hardcore servers (permadeath mode) launch in winter 2026. This is Blizzard's answer to hardcore enthusiasts who want genuine stakes. Expect competition for resources and a tight community.

Graphics and Performance

WoW Forever includes enhanced water rendering and dynamic lighting as optional graphics upgrades. If your system struggles, toggle these off for baseline performance. The engine improvements are subtle but make the world feel more alive.

Getting Started: From Launch Day to Level 60

Your WoW Forever journey starts at launch on November 4. If you're planning to rush 60, understand that no dungeon finder means finding groups in chat. Build relationships early. Join a guild even if it's casual; guild chat is where group invites happen.

Name reservation opens October 27. Don't sleep on this. Popular names go within hours.

Familiar with other expansions? Forget what you know about auto-grouping, level scaling, and flying. WoW Forever forces you to engage with the world and other players. This friction is intentional and good.

Skip the grind and jump straight into endgame. Our WoW Forever Powerleveling service gets you to 60 fast so you can raid with your guild without falling behind on day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is WoW Forever free-to-play or subscription?

WoW Forever requires a World of Warcraft subscription ($14.99/month standard). The expansion editions ($29.99+) are one-time purchases that unlock Skyborne and other cosmetics. It's not free-to-play, but it's the standard WoW subscription model.

Can I play Skyborne without buying an edition?

No. Skyborne requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99) or higher. Base game includes the traditional eight races and their class combinations. Skyborne is the premium race unlocked via purchase.

When do raids launch?

Raids launch December 9, 2026, one month after expansion launch on November 4. This gives the community time to gear up in dungeons and learn their classes before progression raids open.

What's the level cap in WoW Forever?

Level 60, permanently. There are no plans for subsequent expansions that raise the cap. Your gear progression continues indefinitely, but your level stays capped at 60. This is the core design philosophy of WoW Forever: old-school progression without power creep.

Can I fly in WoW Forever?

No flying in WoW Forever. This is intentional. Ground-only travel means zones stay relevant, exploration is rewarded, and world PvP has weight. The Skyborne glide ability (10-second duration) is the closest thing to flight, and it's meant for mobility tricks, not casual travel.

What are the new race/class combinations?

WoW Forever adds Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, and Undead Paladin as new combinations. These expand class fantasy and give players more options without breaking faction identity.

Do I need to level through all new zones?

No. You have multiple leveling paths. You can mix old-world zones with new zones. Dungeon grinding is viable if you have a group. Questing in Riverglades and Shen'Dralas is faster if you're solo. The choice is yours.
