The Unbinding of Kith'ix: Healer Guide (WoW Midnight)
Kith'ix is the only boss in The Unbinding of Kith'ix raid, introduced in Patch 12.1.5. As a healer, your job shifts constantly between proactive tank maintenance, dispelling, and reacting to burst windows. Lady Liadrin is your NPC ally throughout the fight. Knowing when to use her buffs and when to conserve your own mana is the difference between a clean kill and a wipe.
For boss mechanics from a general raid perspective, see the full overview guide. The tank guide and DPS guide cover their respective roles.
Quick Reference: Healing Priority by Phase
| Phase | Top Priority | Watch For |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Tank swaps (Devastated debuff), Nightfall DoT escalation | Collect Light's Embrace orbs, dispel Unspeakable Horrors |
| Intermission | Abyssal Grasp absorbs (8s to heal through or player dies) | Dark Frenzy tank spikes, stay in Refulgent Bulwark |
| Phase 2 | Eightfold Eclipse ramp damage, Null Gate repositioning | Nullshards dispels, Negation tank damage |
Phase 1 Healing Strategy (100% to 25% HP)
Tank Healing
Dark Devastation hits the active tank hard and leaves a 25-second Devastated debuff. The debuff does not transfer on the swap, so the incoming tank needs time to stabilize. Keep HoTs rolling on both tanks at all times. The moment you see a Dark Devastation cast, front-load heals on the current tank and have something ready for the incoming one. Do not let the Devastated tank drop while your raid heals are active.
Raid Healing: Twisted Appendage and Unspeakable Horrors
Twisted Appendage puts steady pressure on the raid from tentacle attacks. This is manageable background damage, but Unspeakable Horrors layers fear/CC on random players who will continue taking damage while feared. Dispel these when possible. Prioritize dispelling players sitting at lower health or players with important raid roles.
Nightfall DoT Management
Voidweaver adds cast Nightfall, a stacking Shadow DoT that spreads across the raid. Each stack adds to your healing requirement. Phase 1 is long, and if adds survive, the DoT stacks accumulate fast. Coordinate with DPS on add kill priority. As stacks rise, lean into cooldowns rather than trying to out-heal it raw. When Voidweavers die, the pressure drops immediately.
Light's Embrace Orbs and Extinguish
Lady Liadrin spawns Light's Embrace orbs that grant 90% Shadow damage reduction. Collect these yourself. As a healer, your survival directly impacts the raid, and taking Shadow damage at full value while trying to heal is a fast way to fall behind. Extinguish is a raid-wide Shadow nuke that also strips Light's Embrace from the entire raid. The damage hit itself is significant, and after it lands the raid takes full Shadow damage until new orbs are collected. Have a cooldown prepped for this window and be ready for a burst heal check.
Bomber Beetle Fixates
Beetles fixate a player for 30 seconds. Heal these players proactively. They cannot outrun the beetle and will absorb hits until the beetle is killed. A fixate target sitting at low health is an avoidable death. When a beetle dies it triggers Gut Reaction (an explosion) and leaves a Digestive Juices Nature DoT on nearby players. Be ready for burst healing after each beetle kill, especially if multiple beetles die close together.
Divine Radiance Windows
When Liadrin casts Divine Radiance, she removes Suffocating Darkness from the raid and stuns Kith'ix briefly. This is your free window. Use it to top the raid, apply HoTs, and do anything you were too busy to do during active add phases. Do not waste it by waiting to see if people need healing.
Intermission Healing Strategy (100 Energy)
Stay in Refulgent Bulwark
During the intermission, Liadrin creates a Refulgent Bulwark. Anyone outside takes heavy damage from Suffocating Darkness. Position yourself inside the safe zone. You cannot heal through environmental damage and cast heals at the same time, so staying in position is non-negotiable.
Abyssal Grasp: The Healer Check
This is the mechanic that kills raids. Abyssal Grasp places a healing absorb on random players. Each absorb must be healed through within 8 seconds, or the player dies. There is no avoiding it, only outpacing it.
- Assign healers to watch for Abyssal Grasp targets on their raid frames.
- Use direct, high-output heals on absorb targets immediately. HoTs alone will not land fast enough for all absorbs.
- If multiple players receive absorbs simultaneously, triage by health percentage and coordinate with your co-healer(s).
- Do not spend your cooldowns on tank damage before this hits. Save burst output for absorb coverage.
Dark Frenzy Tank Damage
Surviving adds enter Dark Frenzy and hit harder. Tank damage spikes here on top of Abyssal Grasp pressure. Keep HoTs on the tank as passive coverage while you manage absorbs actively.
Phase 2 Healing Strategy (25% HP)
Stygian Howl Transition
Kith'ix opens Phase 2 with a raid-wide stun. You cannot cast heals during Stygian Howl. Make sure the raid is topped before the transition. If you see Phase 2 approaching, do not sit on your heals.
Last Light and Luminous Grace
Liadrin's Last Light fully heals the entire raid at transition and applies Luminous Grace, a buff that increases damage dealt by 50% and healing done by 100%. This is your opportunity. All of your heals hit for double their normal value. Use your cooldowns now. Every heal is massively more efficient with Luminous Grace active.
Eightfold Eclipse
Kith'ix begins casting Eightfold Eclipse repeatedly. At 8 casts, the raid wipes. Each cast increases the damage the raid takes. Healing requirements escalate with each cast while your DPS races to kill the boss. Do not hold cooldowns. Use everything, use it early, and stay ahead of the damage curve. There is no second phase after this one.
Null Gate: You Are a Target
Null Gate targets one melee player, one ranged player, and one healer. If you are targeted, move to your assigned position immediately. You must keep casting while moving. Use instants, use movement-friendly abilities. Missing your position causes damage to others and repositioning the entire raid is worse than a small heal gap.
Nullshards and Nullify
Nullshards applies a stacking debuff called Nullify. At 6 stacks on Normal, 5 on Heroic, or 3 on Mythic, the player dies. Dispel these when your spec can. Prioritize players climbing toward the stack limit over general raid healing, since the death is guaranteed if stacks cap.
Negation on Tanks
Negation adds to tank damage alongside the rest of Phase 2 pressure. Do not let the tanks fall behind while you chase raid damage. They need consistent attention even as the Eightfold Eclipse damage climbs.
Cooldown Planning
Phase 1 is long. Cooldowns will come back at least once before the intermission. Phase 2 is short but fatal if you run dry.
| Timing | Suggested CD Use | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| P1: First Nightfall ramp | One raid CD | DoT stacks escalate quickly if adds survive |
| P1: Post-Extinguish | One raid CD or personal | Full Shadow damage hits before Liadrin reapplies buffs |
| Intermission: Abyssal Grasp | High-output personal or tank CD | Absorbs must be cleared in 8 seconds |
| P2: Eightfold Eclipse casts 3-4 | All remaining CDs | Damage accelerates fast; save nothing for after |
Luminous Grace in Phase 2 amplifies your cooldowns. Stack everything here if your Phase 1 CDs have recovered.
Mana Management
Phase 1 is where mana goes to die. Nightfall stacks, tank swaps, and dispels all pull mana simultaneously. Use efficient heals during low-pressure windows and save expensive spells for spikes. Divine Radiance windows from Liadrin are breathing room: use efficient or free abilities here, not your expensive ones.
Going into the intermission low on mana is recoverable. Going into Phase 2 below 30% is not. Phase 2 is short but every heal matters. Do not start Eightfold Eclipse running on fumes. If your spec has a mana recovery tool, use it in the early intermission, not mid-Phase 2.
Healer Loot Priority
| Item | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sigil of the Impending Eclipse | Trinket (Haste) | Scales with missing HP of allies; strong in high-damage phases like Eightfold Eclipse |
| Sanctified Knight's Phoenixblade | 1H Sword (Intellect) | Heal/damage interaction; priority for healer specs using this slot |
| Band of the Swarmcaller | Ring (Mastery/Haste) | Solid secondary stat combination for most healer specs |
Item levels: Raid Finder 285, Normal 298, Heroic 311, Mythic 324. For a full gearing path after clearing this raid, see the Midnight gearing guide.
Common Healer Mistakes
- Ignoring Light's Embrace orbs. As a healer, you need the Shadow DR too. Dying because you skipped an orb is avoidable.
- Holding cooldowns through Eightfold Eclipse. There is nothing to save them for. If the boss is not dead by 8 casts, no cooldown will matter.
- Reacting to Abyssal Grasp instead of anticipating it. Watch for the cast and pre-position your cursor on likely targets. Losing 2 seconds to target switching costs you the absorb.
- Topping everyone before Phase 2 transition and losing it to Stygian Howl. Top the raid before the transition, not during it. The stun takes away your ability to react.
- Dispelling Unspeakable Horrors on full-health players before low-health players. Triage dispels the same way you triage heals.
- Standing outside Refulgent Bulwark during the intermission. Even a second outside during Suffocating Darkness sets back your healing output significantly.
Healer Composition Tips
This fight has two hard healing checks: Nightfall DoT ramp in Phase 1 and Abyssal Grasp in the intermission. Your composition should cover both.
- At least one healer with a strong dispel for Unspeakable Horrors and Nullify. If your spec cannot dispel these, coordinate with a co-healer who can.
- At least one healer with high burst output for Abyssal Grasp absorption. Specs with targeted big heals (not just HoT profiles) handle intermission better.
- On Mythic, Nullify caps at 4 stacks instead of 5. Bring more dispel coverage or assign a specific healer to track debuff stacks on raid frames.
- The fight is Flex 15-25 on all difficulties including Mythic. With more healers, you have more cooldowns and more dispel coverage, but Abyssal Grasp still targets individuals. More bodies does not solve the check; coordination does.
FAQ
Can I collect Light's Embrace orbs while healing?
Yes, and you should. Movement toward an orb takes a fraction of a second. The 90% Shadow DR makes you more durable, which means you spend less of your own resources self-healing or receiving heals from others. Skip orbs only if a critical heal requires your immediate attention.
What happens if Abyssal Grasp is not healed in time?
The player dies. There is no partial credit. The absorb must be fully healed through within 8 seconds. If multiple players have absorbs at the same time, prioritize by health percentage and have your co-healer(s) take separate targets.
Should I use Luminous Grace to pad healing meters or output defensively?
Defensive output. Eightfold Eclipse damage increases with each cast. Luminous Grace arrives at Phase 2 start when the damage is still manageable. Front-loading your cooldowns into Luminous Grace means you clear the high-damage casts more safely, not that you end the fight with impressive HPS numbers.
Is Null Gate avoidable if I am the targeted healer?
No. If Null Gate selects you, you move to the assigned position. The mechanic cannot be dodged or absorbed. Practice casting while moving or delaying non-critical casts by one GCD to hit your position cleanly before continuing.
