WoW Forever Priest Guide
Priest is the strongest healer class in WoW Forever and a lethal force in PvP. Holy tops raid healing meters, Discipline controls arena matches, and Shadow melts enemies while feeding mana to your group. Utility and raw throughput in every encounter.
What Changed for Priests in WoW Forever
WoW Forever adds several quality-of-life improvements and mechanical adjustments for Priests. Inner Focus is now available instantly and makes your next spell free and completely immune to interruption, turning it into a clutch button for dungeons and raids. Prayer of Mending bounces between party members, healing whoever needs it most. Discipline's talent tree has been rebalanced to emphasize shielding, making Discipline healers even more valuable in structured PvP.
Gnome Priest is a new race/class combo, opening more transmog and roleplay options. More importantly, Fear Ward - the Dwarf-exclusive crowd control counter - is now available to all Priest races, removing a significant disadvantage for non-Dwarves in arena and dungeons.
Shadow Form got buffed hard. Baseline damage reduction increased to 15%. Shadowform now doubles crit damage (200% vs normal 150%), making Crit the best secondary stat for Shadow. DoT ticks can crit in Forever (they could not in Classic). Shadow Word: Death learned at level 32. Devouring Plague is baseline at level 20 (was Undead-only in Classic). Vampiric Embrace triggers Spirit Tap for mana sustain.
Spec Overview
| Spec | PvE Raid Tier | PvP Tier | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holy | A-tier | B-tier | Raid healing backbone. Every raid wants 2-3 Holy Priests. Spammable AoE healing, efficient single-target, top throughput. |
| Discipline | B-tier | S-tier | Arena and RBG dominance. Shields absorb damage before it lands. Mana Burn drains other healers. Best 1v1 and small-group healer. |
| Shadow | B-tier | C-tier | Group DPS with passive healing. Vampiric Embrace returns mana to raid. One Shadow Priest per raid is near-mandatory for mana sustainability. |
Best Race for Priest
Alliance
- Dwarf - Desperate Prayer (instant self-heal) + Stoneform (remove diseases/bleeds). Best survivability. Flavor: gruff and tanky.
- Human - Spirit bonus gives ~5-8% mana regen boost. Reputation bonuses accelerate grinds. Solid all-arounder.
- Gnome - Size is purely aesthetic but fun. Same baseline stats as Human. Escape Artist (60% slow immunity) has niche PvP value.
Horde
- Undead - Will of the Forsaken removes crowd control. Devouring Plague is a unique DoT (Shadow only). Touch of Weakness debuffs enemies' physical damage. Extremely tanky in PvP.
- Troll - Berserking grants 20% haste for 10 seconds. Perfect for emergency healing bursts or Shadow damage phases. Hex of Weakness (physical damage debuff) is useful utility.
- Tauren - Endurance (10% health) is solid. War Stomp (AoE stun) breaks crowd control. Less specialized than Undead or Troll but well-rounded.

Holy Priest - The Raid Healer
Holy Priests are the raid healing backbone. You heal more people, more often, and more efficiently than any other healer. Your job is keeping the whole raid alive while the tanks soak damage.
Key Spells
- Greater Heal - Your workhorse. 3-second cast, moderate mana, huge single-target heal. The most efficient spell for recovering damaged players.
- Flash Heal - Instant heal (with Surge of Light talent). Lower throughput, higher mana cost. Use for movement or when someone's about to die.
- Prayer of Healing - AoE heal to 5 party members. Casts slower but heals multiple people. Essential for cleave damage and raid damage.
- Renew - HoT (heal over time). Cheap, instant, pairs well with Talent tree for damage-free healing.
- Circle of Healing - Instant AoE heal on a cooldown. Triggers off other heals. Top-tier raid ability.
- Prayer of Mending - Bouncing heal that applies to whoever takes damage next. Pair with your Prayer of Healing for ridiculous raid coverage.
- Inner Focus - Instant, makes next spell free and interrupt-immune. Use before big heals or when interrupted.
- Power Word: Shield - Absorb shield. Use on tank pre-pull and during predictable damage.
Holy Stat Priority
| Priority | Stat | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +Healing (Spell Power) | Increases all heal sizes. Stack this first. |
| 2 | Intellect | Boosts mana pool and spellpower (+0.5 healing per intellect). |
| 3 | Spirit | Mana regeneration. Soft cap around 100, then diminishing returns. |
| 4 | MP5 | Out-of-combat mana regeneration. Useful for dungeons and between-pull recovery. |
| 5 | Stamina | Only needed if you're getting one-shot. Usually skip until endgame gear. |
Discipline Priest - The PvP Healer
Discipline is the elite PvP healer. You don't just heal damage after it happens - you prevent it. Your shields land before the enemy's burst even connects, and abilities like Mana Burn turn fights against other healers into free wins.
Key Spells
- Power Word: Shield - Your bread and butter. Instant shield, large absorb. More shields = harder to kill.
- Penance - 3-hit instant-cast projectile. Heals your target for full power, damages enemies. 10-second cooldown, can be cast while moving.
- Pain Suppression - Reduces a target's damage taken by 40% for 8 seconds. Clutch button for saving teammates or yourself.
- Mana Burn - Removes mana from an enemy healer. Each mana point drained slightly heals you. Oppressive in arenas where the enemy healer runs out of mana.
- Inner Focus - Instant, frees your next shield or heal and protects it from interrupts. Essential for arena survival.
- Flash Heal - Instant (with talents). Lower mana cost than Holy's versions, synergizes with shield playstyle.
- Desperate Prayer - Self-only instant heal (Dwarf racial or talent). Last-resort survival tool.
Discipline Stat Priority (PvP)
| Priority | Stat | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stamina | Survivability. You can't heal if you're dead. Stack first. |
| 2 | Intellect | Mana pool and spellpower for bigger shields. |
| 3 | +Healing | Increases shield absorb and healing done. |
| 4 | Resilience | Reduces PvP burst damage taken by enemies. |
| 5 | Spirit | Mana regeneration between fights. |
Shadow Priest - The Mana Battery
Shadow is the weird DPS spec that heals. You pump out damage with DoTs and instant-cast nukes while passively returning mana to your entire raid. One Shadow Priest per raid is near-mandatory if your healers are struggling with mana sustainability.
Key Spells
- Vampiric Embrace - Returns roughly 10-15% of your damage done to the raid's mana pool. This is why you're invited.
- Shadow Word: Pain - 15-second DoT. Your first application. Keep it rolling on the main target.
- Vampiric Touch - 15-second DoT, higher damage than SWP, applies Vampiric Embrace's mana return. Apply after Shadow Word: Pain.
- Mind Blast - Instant cast, high damage. Use on cooldown between DoT refreshes.
- Mind Flay - 3-second channel for steady damage. Your filler between Mind Blasts. Can be clipped early without losing damage.
- Shadow Word: Death - Instant cast, huge damage if target is below 20% health. Damages you too, so don't spam it if you're low.
- Shadow Form - Passive 15% damage reduction. Always active. Keeps you alive in dungeons.
Shadow Rotation
2. Cast Shadow Word: Pain
3. Cast Mind Blast whenever it's off cooldown
4. Fill time with Mind Flay
5. Refresh DoTs before they expire (don't let them fall off)
6. Use Shadow Word: Death only when target < 20% HP
Shadow Stat Priority
| Priority | Stat | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Spell Damage | Scales all Shadow damage and mana return. Primary stat. |
| 2 | Hit (16% cap) | DoTs need to land. Reduced by Shadow Focus talent to ~11%. Don't overcap. |
| 3 | Crit | Increases damage and threat generation. |
| 4 | Intellect | Mana pool for longer fights. Less urgent than healing specs. |
| 5 | Stamina | Survivability in dungeons and PvP. |

Leveling as Priest - The Wand Era
Priest is deliberately weak to level solo, but wands solve this. Your leveling process is straightforward: use Shadow spec, apply your DoTs, wand the enemy to death, drink between pulls, and never stop moving.
- Spec Shadow from level 10 - You need Shadow Form's 15% damage reduction and DoT damage. Holy is impossible to level with.
- Use wands constantly - A green wand (auto-attack) does surprising damage from 1-20. Upgrade wands as you quest.
- Rotation - Shadow Word: Pain, then wand spam. Once you're 20+, add Mind Flay and Mind Blast to the rotation, but still use the wand as your primary attack.
- Spirit Tap (talent) - Restores 50% of your max mana on kill. This eliminates downtime. You never sit down to drink with Spirit Tap active.
- Pull slowly - Priest has zero durability while leveling. Pull one at a time. Your goal is never taking damage.
- Desperate Prayer (talent or Dwarf racial) - Instant self-heal. Use if you accidentally pull too much.
Leveling speed is slow compared to Mages or Warriors, but the zero-downtime playstyle makes it mindless. Pack your bags with wands and keep moving.
Best Professions for Priest
- Tailoring - Cloth armor. You craft your own gear from level 1. Robes and bracers are dirt cheap from vendors, so you're always in fresh gear. Endgame: create powerful robes and armor kits for others or yourself.
- Enchanting - Enchant your own tailored gear. +Healing, Intellect, Spirit enchants boost your stats immensely. Endgame: sell high-demand enchants (Greater Intellect, Healing Power) for steady gold.
- Alchemy - Healers burn through mana potions. Craft your own Super Mana Potions and Intellect potions. Less gold, but functional if you prefer self-sufficiency.
- Herbalism + Alchemy - The gatherer combo. Farm herbs, convert to potions. Lower profit but self-sufficient.
FAQ
Should I play Holy or Discipline for dungeons?
Holy for speed-running, Discipline if your tank is squishy. Holy has more raw healing throughput and spammable AoE. Discipline prevents damage with shields, making it better for low-gear dungeons. Pick whichever fits your playstyle.
Can Shadow Priest tank damage?
No. Shadow Form gives 15% damage reduction, but your HP pool is cloth-tier. You die in 2-3 hits. Let the tank hold aggro. Your job is DPS and mana return.
How much Hit do I need as Shadow?
16% is the hard cap (reduced to ~11% with Shadow Focus talent). Over-capping is a waste. Get to 11% and put remaining points into Crit and Spell Damage.
Is Mana Burn overpowered in PvP?
Yes, it's why Discipline is S-tier arena. Burning a Druid or Holy Paladin's mana makes them useless. Always Mana Burn enemy healers first in 2v2 and 3v3.
How many Holy Priests does a raid need?
2-3 out of 10 healers for a 25-player raid. Holy brings the highest healing throughput. If you have 3 Holy, 2 Discipline (for PvP-gear'd members), and 1 Shadow (mana battery), you're optimal.
