Midnight Raid Guide: All 9 Bosses & Loot (Season 1)

Midnight Season 1 Raids Overview

WoW Midnight Season 1 launches with three separate raid encounters, spanning from March 17 through March 31, 2026. Each raid tells its own story while contributing to the broader narrative of the Void's corruption spreading across Azeroth. The Voidspire and Dreamrift open together on March 17, followed two weeks later by March on Quel'Danas. Mythic difficulty becomes available one week after each raid's initial release.

Whether you're chasing Cutting Edge or simply looking to gear up through Heroic, understanding the raid structure and release schedule helps you plan your progression route. All three raids drop Tier 35 tokens, making them essential for completing your tier set bonus.

Raid Name Zone Bosses Opens (Normal/Heroic/Raid Finder) Mythic Opens
The Voidspire Voidstorm 6 March 17 March 24
The Dreamrift Harandar 1 March 17 March 24
March on Quel'Danas Isle of Quel'Danas 2 March 31 April 7

This staggered release gives guilds time to progress through the earlier raids before facing the story-heavy encounters on Quel'Danas. Most competitive guilds will clear Voidspire and Dreamrift in the first two weeks, then pivot to March on Quel'Danas when it opens.

The Voidspire (6 Bosses)

The Voidspire is the main raid progression experience of Season 1, a 6-boss encounter set deep in the corrupted void-elf relic looming over the Voidstorm. The raid is built as a proper linear progression, with each boss teaching you mechanics that prepare you for later encounters. If you've raided before, expect mechanics around interrupts, dispels, and tight assignment discipline.

The Voidspire functions as the backboard for Cutting Edge attempts this season. Its final boss, Alleria Windrunner, is a multi-phase nightmare featuring high-intensity burn phases, cosmic anomalies, gravity mechanics, and overlapping mechanics that test every aspect of your raid coordination. On Mythic, Alleria is the world-first race boss and represents the absolute peak of difficulty in Season 1.

The Voidspire Boss List

Boss 1-2: Early fights teaching interrupt rotations and basic mechanic execution.

Boss 3: Requires minimum two designated interrupt specs and tests your ability to handle competing priorities.

Boss 4-5: Bring raid-wide cooldowns and active mitigation. Tank survivability checks increase noticeably here.

Boss 6 - Alleria Windrunner: The capstone encounter. High-skill ceiling, overlapping mechanics, and unforgiving DPS checks. This is where most guilds spend their progression time on Mythic.

Voidspire Loot & Tier Tokens

The Voidspire drops tier tokens for helmet, shoulders, gloves, and legs across all difficulties. Combine these with the chest token from Dreamrift and the flexible tokens from March on Quel'Danas to complete your full tier set. All loot has void, light, and dragon themes with weapons, trinkets, and profession recipes mixed throughout.

For detailed boss strategies, mechanics breakdowns, and optimal positioning for each encounter, see our Voidspire Raid Guide.

The Dreamrift (1 Boss)

The Dreamrift is Midnight's answer to a single-boss raid - a full raid night compressed into one encounter. Chimaerus, the Undreamt God, awaits in Harandar, an eldritch nightmare entity that grew fat and horrible inside the Rift of Aln. This boss is mechanically demanding but presents a refreshing change of pace from the 6-boss gauntlet of Voidspire.

The Dreamrift is incredibly efficient for loot. You're looking at roughly 30-40 minutes to clear (on later difficulties, once you've learned the mechanics), making this raid a staple of every week's raid schedule. Chimaerus drops the chest slot tier token, which is essential for completing your 4-piece set bonus.

Chimaerus Encounter Overview

Chimaerus is built around light and void alignment mechanics. The encounter teaches you how to position around overlapping auras and manage cooldowns around phase transitions. It's less about raw DPS and more about assignment accuracy and positioning discipline.

The fight features significant movement requirements and mechanics that scale with raid size and composition. Bring adequate dispel coverage and coordinate with your assignments - this isn't a fight where you can skip mechanics and heal through it.

Dreamrift Loot

Chimaerus guarantees a chest tier token on every difficulty. All raid members receive loot, making this a high-efficiency reset activity. Beyond tier, Chimaerus drops weapons, trinkets, and profession materials. The item level scaling follows the same track system as Voidspire, with higher difficulty awards granting better crest values.

March on Quel'Danas (2 Bosses)

March on Quel'Danas releases two weeks after the initial raid tier and brings the story of Midnight to its climax. Set on the iconic Isle of Quel'Danas, this raid features Belo'ren, Child of Al'ar and Midnight Falls (L'ura), two encounters that represent the conflict between Light and Void corruption.

The raid opens March 31 with Normal, Heroic, and Raid Finder all available simultaneously - no gate. This makes it accessible immediately but means guilds need to manage expectations around difficulty. Both encounters are mechanically tight and represent some of the hardest fights outside Mythic difficulty.

Belo'ren, Child of Al'ar

One of the last of Al'ar's clutch, Belo'ren was raised to protect Quel'Danas but has fallen to Void corruption. The encounter alternates between Void-dominant and Light-dominant phases, teaching players how the light and void alignment mechanic works at a fundamental level. This is essentially your tutorial for the next encounter.

Belo'ren drops flexible tier tokens usable for any slot, making this a valuable farm target each week for completing your tier set. The fight itself is mechanically intermediate - harder than Dreamrift but not a wall of difficulty.

Midnight Falls (L'ura)

L'ura was once a creature of Light but fell to the Void long ago on Argus. Her essence was siphoned by Alleria Windrunner, and her dark energies now threaten the Sunwell itself. On Mythic, she is known simply as L'ura, representing the Void's complete victory over light.

This is the mechanically most demanding encounter of the three Midnight raids. Midnight Falls features overlapping mechanics similar to Alleria, with tighter margins for error. Expect to spend significant progression time here on Mythic. Her loot includes flexible tier tokens and exclusive items unavailable elsewhere in Season 1.

The story significance of this raid cannot be overstated - defeating L'ura has massive narrative consequences for the expansion's second season.

Raid Loot and Item Levels

Midnight raids operate on the new Track system, where items start at a lower power level and players use Dawncrests to upgrade them. This system allows players who are slightly behind in gear to catch up naturally through repeated weeks of farming.

Difficulty Item Level (Starting) Crest Type Great Vault Item Level
Raid Finder 226 Spark 239
Normal 233 Vibrant Shard 246
Heroic 246 Vibrant Crest 259
Mythic 259 Myth Crest 272

All five boss encounters that drop tier tokens (Voidspire bosses 1-4, Dreamrift) award tier pieces on every difficulty. The tokens are split across slots: helmet, shoulders, gloves, and legs come from Voidspire; chest comes from Dreamrift; and March on Quel'Danas bosses drop flexible tokens usable for any slot. This allows players to target-farm specific pieces once they identify gaps in their set.

Don't worry about starting at slightly lower item levels than Mythic raiders. By your third or fourth week of clearing on Heroic, your gear will be completely caught up through Dawncrests. The system is designed to prevent soft-caps where you're stuck waiting for one specific item drop.

Cutting Edge and Ahead of the Curve

Cutting Edge achievement requires defeating all bosses on Mythic difficulty before the raid tier ends. For Midnight Season 1, this means clearing Voidspire and Dreamrift by mid-June (assuming an 8-9 week farm window before Season 2), then March on Quel'Danas Mythic shortly after. The timeline is aggressive for guilds without previous Mythic experience.

Ahead of the Curve is significantly more relaxed - you have until the final raid tier releases in Season 2 (likely September 2026) to defeat all bosses on Heroic. This gives casual to serious-casual guilds 5+ months to complete the objective.

The real gate for Cutting Edge progression is Alleria Windrunner. Most guilds spend 3-4 weeks progressing her on Mythic. If you can clear her, L'ura falls relatively quickly (1-2 weeks), and Mythic March on Quel'Danas boss 1 is a brief farm session before tackling L'ura.

Realistic Timeline Expectations

Week 1: Voidspire Normal progression, Dreamrift clear.

Week 2-3: Voidspire Heroic farm, Dreamrift Heroic, March on Quel'Danas normal clear (available week 2).

Week 4: March on Quel'Danas Heroic.

Week 5+: Mythic progression on Alleria/L'ura.

Best Raid Compositions

Midnight raids reward balanced, flexible compositions. You'll want at least two interrupt specs for bosses like Voidspire boss 3, multiple dispels for Chimaerus and L'ura, and adequate healing cooldowns for Alleria's final phase burst.

Tank composition matters less than you might think - any two tanks work fine. DPS specs vary by encounter, but bringing top-tier specs in your available classes will always outperform gimped compositions. Check our DPS tier list for current Midnight rankings.

Healer composition is flexible across two-three healers depending on difficulty. The key is healing throughput during burn phases and dispel coverage. Bring spellsteal/purge classes to handle important buffs/debuffs.

Need a full clear? Our Midnight Raids Bundle covers all three raids with full loot, letting you experience the story and grab tier tokens without the wipe prog. Prefer a single raid? Our Heroic Raid Carry handles individual raids too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best difficulty to start raiding on?

Start on Normal or Raid Finder if you're new to Midnight raids. Normal teaches you mechanics without too much gear pressure, and you'll be raid-ready for Heroic by week three. Raid Finder is purely for people who want to experience story with minimal mechanics knowledge.

Can I skip Voidspire and jump straight to Dreamrift?

Technically yes - they open the same week and Dreamrift is only one boss. But Voidspire is the main progression raid and teaches you the seasonal mechanics. Don't skip it. You'll struggle more on Chimaerus without Voidspire experience under your belt.

Do I need to raid Mythic to get Cutting Edge?

Yes. Cutting Edge explicitly requires Mythic difficulty. Heroic gets you Ahead of the Curve, which is a totally respectable achievement for casual players.

How often should I run these raids?

Once per week per difficulty (the raid reset timers allow one kill per difficulty per week). Most guilds run a single Mythic night weekly, plus optional Heroic farm runs if people want extra gear.

What item level do I need to start raiding?

Raid Finder requires item level 421. Normal requires approximately 428-430. Heroic wants 440+. Mythic is 450+ minimum but realistically needs 460+ with proper stats and set bonuses. Don't queue for Mythic without the gear - you'll wipe the raid.
