WoW Midnight Season 2 Complete Guide: Raids, Mythic+, PVP & Gearing

|~10 min read|WoW Midnight

What's New in Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula'tek

Patch 12.1 brings a new serpent-themed zone, an eight-boss raid, a three-boss dungeon, an updated Mythic+ rotation, and significant gearing changes. The patch lead-in questline went live July 7, 2026, introducing Zul'jan, Zul'jarra, and the imprisoned weapon Ula'tek. Season 2 officially starts approximately one week after the patch launch.

The biggest changes from Season 1: item levels jump by +46 across all tracks, bonus rolls return at reduced cost, Heroic raid becomes a reliable source of Myth-track loot through vault, and a completely new crest system (Mistcrests) replaces the old one. Eight new M+ dungeons replace the entire Season 1 rotation.

The Coiled Isle: New Zone

The Coiled Isle sits east of Zul'Aman, themed around Amani Troll culture and venom. The zone hosts three activity types: Curse Surges (rotating rare spawns), Cursed Fishing (resource gathering tied to curse mechanics), and Vaults of Atal'Utek (group content for blue and purple gear).

A custom talent tree, Altar of Corrosion, unlocks venom resistance perks that interact with raid and M+ mechanics. The new Zul'Jarra's Forces faction caps at 20 renown levels with Amani Troll-themed rewards at each tier.

For farming routes, renown breakpoints, and daily priorities, see our Coiled Isle zone guide.

The Venomous Abyss Raid: 8 Bosses

The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid available on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulty for 10-30 players at level 90. Loot ranges from ilvl 285 (Normal first bosses) to ilvl 337 (Mythic final bosses, very rare drops).

Boss Order

6The Twin Fangs (Vexhul and Ithraz)Ula'tek's first blood, brood in a venom sea
7The Coiled AltarZul'jan under Malacrass's control during the final ritual
8Ula'tekThe imprisoned weapon, final boss

Killing Ula'tek on Heroic earns the Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek Feat of Strength. Mythic kills award Cutting Edge: Ula'tek. The Glory of the Venomous Abyss Raider meta-achievement rewards a unique mount.

For boss-by-boss strategies, loot tables, and role assignments, read our Venomous Abyss raid guide. Full loot breakdown across all three raids is in the raid loot guide.

Altar of Fangs: New Dungeon

Altar of Fangs is a three-boss dungeon launching with Heroic difficulty at patch release, then entering the M+ rotation with Season 2. The three bosses are Rav'i, The Writhing Coil, and Zul'jan (the Midnight storyline antagonist).

This dungeon connects directly to the Coiled Isle storyline and features venom-themed mechanics that scale with Mythic+ key level. For pull routes, interrupt priorities, and affix interactions, see our Altar of Fangs M+ guide.

Tidebound Grotto: New Lair

Tidebound Grotto is a new Lair featuring Nymrissa Wavecaller as the boss. Lairs function as instanced world bosses scaling from Normal to Flexible Mythic difficulty. Weekly lockout, quick to clear, and a solid source of early-season gear.

Mythic+ Season 2: Full Dungeon Rotation

Season 2 completely replaces the Season 1 M+ pool. All eight Season 1 dungeons (Magisters' Terrace, Maisara Caverns, Nexus-Point Xenas, Windrunner Spire, Pit of Saron, Skyreach, Seat of the Triumvirate, Algeth'ar Academy) leave the rotation.

  • Keystone Master (all +15 timed): Breath of Blight mount
  • Keystone Legend: Breath of Ruin mount
  • Umbral Champion: Umbral Ashes mount

Season 2 Gearing: Item Levels and Progression

Season 2 raises item levels by +46 across all tracks compared to Season 1. The maximum standard ilvl is 328 (Myth 6/6), with 334 from Ascendant Venomstones and 337 from very rare Mythic raid drops.

Crests: Mistcrests

Crests are renamed to Mistcrests in Season 2. Upgrade costs now scale: each level costs +10 crests more than the previous. A full Heroic trinket upgrade costs 150 crests (up from 100 in Season 1).

  • Champion Mistcrest: Normal raid, M+2-3
  • Hero Mistcrest: Heroic raid, M+4-8, T11 Delves

Key Gearing Changes

  • Bonus rolls return at 1 coin per instance (was 2). Weekly bonus roll from Orin Straylight in Silvermoon starting Week 8.
  • Great Vault buffs: LFR vault = Champion 1/8. Normal = Hero 1/6. Heroic = Myth 1/6. Mythic = Myth 6/6. Last 2 Mythic bosses = 9/6 Myth (ilvl 337).
  • Heroic raid worth farming again: bonus roll on Heroic gives Myth-track loot through the vault.
  • Catalyst: set armor inherits secondary stats from converted item. Cantrip effects maintained.
  • Ascendant Venomstones (later in season): upgrade necklaces, weapons, and trinkets to Myth 8/6 equivalent (ilvl 334). Cost: 10 Venomstones. Sources: Heroic+ raid, M+10, T11 Delves, Nightmare Prey.

For week-by-week gearing priorities, see our weekly gearing routine. Full gearing pathways and catch-up mechanics are in the Season 2 gearing guide. The gear upgrade system guide covers Mistcrest farming and upgrade math.

Delves in Season 2

Three new Delves launch with Season 2:

  • The Ring of Glory -- new solo/group delve
  • Gnarldor Isle -- new solo/group delve
  • Venomfall Deeps -- Nemesis Delve (hardest difficulty tier)

Existing Midnight delves receive snake and venom story variants. Bountiful Delves become available with Season 2. Tier 11 Delves drop Hero Mistcrests, making them relevant for endgame gearing alongside M+ and raids.

For optimal Valeera roles, curio rankings, and weekly delve routines, check our solo delve guide and complete delves overview. The Delver's Journey renown guide covers the progression path to 276 ilvl Hero Track gear.

PvP in Season 2

A new PvP season launches with fresh rankings, seasonal rewards, and Arena vs Bots -- a training mode for practicing arena without rating loss. Additional quality-of-life changes include a Cooldown Manager for tracking trinkets and potions, post-match UI showing pre-match MMR for each team, and an improved ping system.

Seasonal rewards include the Venomous Gladiator's Goredrake mount for reaching Gladiator rank and elite transmog sets for rated play.

For spec rankings, see our PvP tier list and Midnight PvP tier list. Arena comp recommendations are in the arena comps guide. For Rated Battlegrounds, check the RBG guide.
