WoW Midnight Gearing Guide: Weekly Order for Season 1 (2026)

WoW Midnight Season 1 Weekly Gearing Order

Midnight Season 1 overhauled how gearing works in World of Warcraft. Every system feeds the next: Prey hunts give you coffer keys for delves, delves give you crests for crafting, and raids give you tier sets that unlock catalyst charges. Instead of scattered grinding, Blizzard designed a clean weekly flow where each step sets up the next one.

This wow midnight gearing guide maps out the exact weekly order to follow. Do these steps in sequence each reset, and you will hit ilvl 272+ within a few weeks without wasting a single crest.

Step 0: Pick Up Liadrin's Weekly Spark Quest

Before you do anything else each week, grab the quest from Lady Liadrin. It rewards one Spark of Radiance, which you need for crafting high-level gear later. Pick it up first and complete it passively while doing other content throughout the week.

You accumulate sparks over time. By week 2, you will have four sparks total, enough to craft two items or one two-handed weapon. Do not skip this quest. Ever.

Step 1: Kill the World Boss

The world boss is a guaranteed piece of Champion gear. Just find the big guy on the map, join the zerg, and collect your loot. The drop is warbound and can be for any spec on its loot table, not just what you are currently playing. It is partially designed for alts, but you might get lucky and find something useful for your main.

Takes 5 minutes. Free gear. No reason to skip it.

Step 2: Prey Hunts (This Goes Before Delves)

Prey is not just first because it is new. It is designed to go before delves in your weekly flow because it sets you up with resources you need later.

How Prey Works

Each of your first two runs per difficulty gives you a gear box. Once you reach Renown 4 with Astralore, you unlock Nightmare difficulty, which drops Champion gear. If you are not at Renown 4 yet, just do hunts until you are.

The boxes from Prey also contain plenty of coffer key shards, which you absolutely need for bountiful delves later. This is reason number one to do Prey first.

The Astralore Weekly Quest

Reason number two is even bigger. Astralore has a weekly quest: complete three Nightmare Prey hunts. The rewards are:

  • 20 Hero Crests (extremely valuable early on)
  • Beacon of Hope (a usable item that summons Nullius into your next delve)

The Beacon of Hope Trick

Normally, Nullius encounters in delves are random. The Beacon of Hope forces the encounter whenever you want. Defeat Nullius and he drops:

  • Champion gear
  • Trove Hunter's Bounty, which makes your next delve spawn a hidden trove at the end with bonus loot. At Tier 8 or above, that trove contains Hero gear.

So the optimal play is: do three Nightmare Prey hunts, get your beacon, then use it in a Tier 8+ delve to guarantee Hero-level loot from the trove. This is the most efficient path in the entire midnight gearing order.

Step 3: Bountiful Delves

Every day, four delves are marked as bountiful for one run per character. At Tier 8, bountiful delves are easy with Valyria set to healer, and they drop Champion gear (2/6) plus a handful of Champion crests.

Coffer Keys and the Weekly Cap

You need a restored coffer key to open the bountiful chest at the end of each bountiful delve. Every 100 coffer key shards automatically convert into one key when you enter a delve. Lita hands you 200 shards as part of the season's Delve intro quest.

Shards come from everywhere: world events, Prey, special assignments, world quests, killing rares. The weekly cap is 600 shards (six keys, six big chances for loot). When the number turns red on your UI, you have hit the cap.

Great Vault Synergy

Here is the clever part. Three Nightmare Prey hunts plus five Tier 8 delves fills your Great Vault world row completely. Blizzard intentionally made the numbers add up so the weekly flow is one smooth loop instead of the old delve grinding.

Pushing Higher: Delver's Journey

Once your Delver's Journey reaches level 2, start doing three Tier 11 delves per week. These award gilded stashes, which contain Hero crests (no gear, but the crests are what matter for upgrades). At Delver's Journey level 4, gilded stashes start dropping Myth crests, the best upgrade currency in the game.

Bonus: Torment Rise Uncapped Crests

Kill Nullius himself in the Torment Rise delve and you get crests that do not count toward your weekly cap. The easy tier gives 30 Hero crests. The hard tier gives 30 Hero plus 30 Myth crests. This is one of the most overlooked sources of free progression in the wow midnight weekly gearing plan.

Also, kill any marked Nullius minions you encounter in delves. They upgrade the Nemesis strongbox, which means more crests and useful items.

Want to skip the delve grind? Our Delves Boost clears the highest tiers for maximum rewards while you focus on other content.

Step 3.5: Mythic 0 Dungeons

With Season 1, the dungeon roster rotated to four Midnight dungeons plus four redesigned classic dungeons. All eight are available on Mythic Zero with a daily loot lockout (not weekly). They drop Champion gear, and the difficulty is very manageable.

This is ranked at step 3.5 because while the gear is good, it is farmable. Once Mythic Plus opens, low Champion gear becomes a short-term gain. But if you enjoy dungeons, running all eight M0s daily is an efficient source of Champion gear that nothing else matches for raw volume.

The Great Vault reward for M0 dungeons is still just Champion gear. For Hero-tier vault rewards, you will need Mythic Plus keys of +10 or higher.

Once M+ opens, our Mythic+ Boost gets you to those vault thresholds fast. Need the Keystone Master achievement? We handle that too.

Step 4: Raids (Rush Your Tier Set)

Queue for LFR as soon as possible. Yes, LFR. The loot is Veteran track, which is not amazing, but the real prize is your tier set.

Why Tier Is Different in Midnight

The tier set bonus is strong enough to rush in every season, but Midnight added something that makes it even more important. Getting your 4-piece set bonus unlocks an achievement, and that achievement lets catalyst charges drop from random bosses.

Previously, you would get stuck waiting weeks for catalyst charges to slowly trickle in. In Midnight, once you have your 4-set, you can potentially get replacement catalyst charges from any boss kill. This means you can convert better gear into tier pieces much faster.

You start the season with one catalyst charge. Use it immediately on your best armor piece to start building toward your 2-set or 4-set bonus. A bonus charge also drops from completing any Champion of Dawn requirement.

The Raid Schedule

Raid Bosses Availability
The Voidspire 6 Available now
The Dreamrift 1 Available now
March on Quel'Danas 2 Opens March 31, 2026

Do as many bosses as you can each week across all difficulties. Normal drops Champion gear (ilvl 246-259), Heroic drops Hero gear (ilvl 259-272), and Mythic drops Myth gear (ilvl 272-285).

Skip weeks of normal progression. Our Voidspire Heroic Carry gets you straight to Hero-tier raid loot and tier pieces. Pushing for world-first level gear? Check out Cutting Edge.

Step 5: Crafting (Avoid the Hero Crest Trap)

By this point, you have finished your weekly content and you are sitting on a stack of crests. Time to craft.

Spark Crafting Tiers

Craft Option Crest Cost Item Level
Crestless craft 0 259
Hero Crest craft 80 Hero 272
Myth Crest craft 80 Myth 285

The Smart Play

Do a crestless craft this week. You get an ilvl 259 weapon immediately, then recraft it later with 80 Myth crests to hit ilvl 285. Using Hero crests on a craft is a trap: you are burning 80 Hero crests on a piece you will recraft with Myth crests anyway. Those Hero crests are completely wasted.

Myth crests come from Tier 11 delves (once you hit Delver's Journey 4) and from Mythic Plus 9 or higher. It is a slow but reliable source, and once M+ opens, you can farm them quickly.

What to Craft

Weapons with the right embellishments. That is almost always the answer. Check your class guide for specific embellishment recommendations. Craft weapons first, everything else second.

Step 5.5: Housing (Free Crests)

This one is easy to miss. A quest in Player Housing rewards a big stack of crests of your choice. The crests count toward your weekly cap, so pick Champion crests. The Champion crest cap starts at 400, while Hero crests cap at 100. Getting free Champion crests here saves you runs elsewhere.

Step 6: Spend Your Crests Smart

By now you have done everything in the weekly loop and you are sitting on crests. Here is the priority order for upgrading gear:

  1. Weapon (highest stat impact per upgrade)
  2. Chest, Head, Legs (large stat budget slots)
  3. Shoulders, Waist, Hands, Feet, good Trinkets
  4. Bracers and Jewelry (lowest priority)

The Free Upgrade Trick

You can skip one upgrade step by using lesser crests strategically. Here is how it works:

Say you have Champion 1/6 gear at ilvl 246. Normally, upgrading it to ilvl 250 costs 20 Champion crests. But Veteran 6/6 gear also sits at ilvl 250. If you upgrade a Veteran piece to max (250) using cheaper Veteran crests, it triggers a free upgrade on your Champion piece from 246 to 250.

This principle works at every tier boundary. It is not a huge savings on any single piece, but across all your gear over an entire season, it adds up significantly. Keep it in mind every time you are about to spend crests.

Alt Gearing in Midnight

Alts have never been easier to gear. Once your main outgrows a gear tier, all alts on your account get a 50% crest discount for that tier. Combined with the removal of Valor Stones and the warbound item system, you can hop onto an alt and start getting real upgrades immediately.

The same weekly flow applies to alts: Prey, delves, M0 dungeons, LFR. The crest discount just means your alt progresses roughly twice as fast through the lower tiers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best weekly gearing order in WoW Midnight?

Follow this sequence every reset: Liadrin's spark quest, world boss, three Nightmare Prey hunts (for the beacon and crests), bountiful delves at Tier 8+, Mythic 0 dungeons, LFR raids for tier gear, then crafting and crest spending. Each step feeds resources into the next one, making this the most efficient midnight season 1 gearing order.

Should I use Hero Crests on crafting right away?

No. This is the biggest crest trap in Midnight. A crestless craft gives you ilvl 259 now, and you can recraft the same item later with 80 Myth crests to reach ilvl 285. If you spend 80 Hero crests for ilvl 272, those crests are wasted when you inevitably recraft with Myth crests. Save your Hero crests for upgrading dropped gear instead.

How do I get Myth Crests early in the season?

Three sources: Tier 11 delves once your Delver's Journey hits level 4 (gilded stashes), the Torment Rise delve where killing Nullius gives 30 Myth crests that bypass your weekly cap, and Mythic Plus keys at +9 or higher once M+ opens. The Torment Rise delve is the easiest uncapped source available right now.

What are coffer key shards and how many do I need?

Coffer key shards are the currency for opening bountiful delve chests. Every 100 shards auto-convert into one restored coffer key when you enter a delve. The weekly cap is 600 shards (6 keys). You get shards from Prey hunts, world events, world quests, special assignments, and killing rares. Lita gives 200 shards free as part of the season intro quest.

How does the catalyst work differently in Midnight?

In Midnight, earning your 4-piece tier set unlocks an achievement that lets catalyst charges drop from random bosses. Previously, catalyst charges were strictly time-gated. Now you can accumulate extra charges through regular play, making it much faster to convert high-ilvl dropped gear into tier pieces.

Can I gear entirely through solo content?

You can reach Champion-tier gear (ilvl 256) entirely through Prey hunts and bountiful delves. For Hero gear (ilvl 272+), you will need either Heroic raids, M+ keys at 10+, or crafted gear with Hero/Myth crests. Delves at Tier 11 provide the crests but not the gear drops directly.
