Running delves solo in WoW Midnight is completely different from The War Within. Brann is gone. Valeera Sanguinar is your new companion, and she actually works. This guide covers the optimal Valeera role for every spec, the best curios, how to guarantee your weekly Trove Hunter's Bounty, and the most efficient coffer key shard farming. Everything you need to solo delves efficiently in Midnight Season 1.
Valeera Sanguinar: Your New Delve Companion
Valeera replaced Brann Bronzebeard as the delve companion in Midnight. The biggest change: she's actually good in every role. In The War Within, Tank Brann was borderline unplayable for DPS specs. Tank Valeera works. Here's why.
Valeera's Agony (New Mechanic)
When Valeera takes damage and her health drops, an add called "Valeera's Agony" spawns. Every time you hit this add, Valeera heals. Kill it and she gets a massive heal. This is the key mechanic that makes Tank Valeera viable for DPS specs.
What you need to know:
- Prioritize the Agony add when it spawns. Ignore the trash mob, hit the add.
- Let Valeera rest between pulls so she can self-heal back up.
- Don't pull ahead of her. Let her engage first, then follow up.
Ping System (New in Midnight)
You can now ping enemies and Valeera will react by engaging them. This is massive for controlling pulls. Instead of running into a pack yourself (especially dangerous as a ranged DPS), just ping the enemy and let Valeera engage first. Use this constantly.
Best Valeera Role for Every Spec
This is the most important decision you make before entering a delve. The wrong Valeera role can make tier 11 runs painful. The right one makes them smooth.
| Your Spec Type | Best Valeera Role | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ranged DPS (all) | Tank | Valeera's Agony keeps her alive. She holds aggro well. You stand at range and DPS freely. Don't pull for her. |
| Squishy Ranged (Shadow Priest, Evoker, Mage, Balance Druid) | Tank (mandatory) | You will die without a tank. Healer Valeera cannot keep you alive in tier 11 if mobs hit you. Tank Valeera is non-negotiable. |
| Melee DPS (all) | Healer | You're tanky enough to take hits. Healer Valeera's healing rings are easy to stand in as melee. You control pulls. Faster runs. |
| Rogues (all specs) | Healer or DPS | Tricks of the Trade on Valeera = she takes ALL aggro regardless of role. DPS Valeera + Tricks = insane damage buff AND she tanks. Busted combo. |
| Hunters (MM, Survival) | Healer or DPS | Misdirection works like Tricks. Same interaction. DPS Valeera + Misdirect = speed clears. |
| Healers (all) | Tank or DPS | Tank Valeera gets a damage buff every time YOU heal her (new in Midnight). DPS Valeera gives you a damage buff so you actually do damage. Both work. |
| Tanks (all) | DPS | You already control everything. DPS Valeera gives you a damage buff and does serious damage herself. Easiest spec to solo delves. |
Rogues and Hunters: The Tricks/Misdirect Interaction
This deserves its own section because it's borderline broken. If you play any Rogue spec or Marksman/Survival Hunter, you have access to Tricks of the Trade or Misdirection. Cast it on Valeera at the start of every delve.
What happens:
- Valeera takes ALL threat from your damage, regardless of her role.
- Set her to Healer: she tanks AND heals you. You never take damage.
- Set her to DPS: she tanks from threat redirect AND gives you a massive damage buff. You both tear through packs at insane speed.
- She can get knocked out occasionally on DPS role, but it's rare and recoverable.
This will probably get nerfed. Abuse it while it lasts.
Best Curios for Solo Delves
Curios are equippable items that modify Valeera's abilities. You have two curio slots. Here are the only two that matter:
| Curio | Effect | Why It's Best |
|---|---|---|
| Porcelain Blade Tip | Chance to make Valeera's attacks crit | Straight damage increase for Valeera. Works in every role. More damage = faster clears = less time for things to go wrong. |
| Mandate of Sacred Death | Grants YOU a chance to deal % of target's max HP as damage. Small chance to instantly kill non-boss enemies. | The execute proc alone makes this S-tier. You will randomly one-shot trash mobs. On bosses, the % HP damage is significant. |
Equip both. Don't change them. These two curios are head and shoulders above everything else for solo play.
Coffer Key Shards: How to Cap Every Week
Bountiful delves require Restored Coffer Keys to open the final chest. You get keys from Coffer Key Shards, which combine automatically when you enter a bountiful delve.
Key Numbers
- Weekly cap: 600 shards per character
- Keys per bountiful delve: 100 shards = 1 key
- Max bountiful runs per week: 6 (600 / 100)
- Shard sources: Treasures, rares, world quests, weekly quests, Nightmare Preys
Most Efficient Shard Farming
- Do your Nightmare Prey weekly first. Aselor offers a weekly quest on every character: complete 3 Nightmare Preys. This gives you shards PLUS a Beacon of Hope (critical item, explained below).
- Do world quests in the zone where you pick your Nightmare Preys. You'll naturally earn enough shards to cap while completing the zone activities.
- Grab any treasure/rare you pass. They all drop shards.
If you just do the Nightmare Prey quest and a few world quests, you'll hit 600 shards easily every week. Don't stress about this.
Bountiful Delves vs Regular Delves
This is a common source of confusion. Here's the difference:
| Regular Delve | Bountiful Delve | |
|---|---|---|
| Map Icon | Standard | Different (glowing) |
| Requires Key | No | Yes (Restored Coffer Key) |
| End Chest | Basic rewards | Champion/Hero track gear |
| Repeatable Rewards | No rep, no undercoins | 125 rep + undercoins per extra run |
| Best For | Unlocking tiers, leveling Valeera | Gearing, reputation, resources |
Rule of thumb: Level up tiers in regular delves. Farm everything in bountiful delves.
Which Tier to Run
- Tier 8 Bountiful: Champion track gear. Good starting point if your ilvl is low. Manageable difficulty.
- Tier 11 Bountiful: The goal. Gilded Sash (hero + myth crests), best reputation gains (700/run with keys), hero track gear at Delver's Journey Rank 9. Run this as soon as you can survive it.
- Tier 6+: Zoron vendor spawns (Rank 5+). Use for refreshing his stock if you're shopping for specific gear.
Important: Myth crests from the Gilded Sash only become available at Delver's Journey Rank 4. Check your progress in the Adventurer Menu > Journeys tab.
Beacon of Hope and Trove Hunter's Bounty
This is the single most important weekly mechanic in delves. Miss this and you're leaving a guaranteed hero track item on the table every week.
How It Works (Step by Step)
- Do the Nightmare Prey quest from Aselor. Complete 3 Nightmare Preys. Reward: Coffer Key Shards + Beacon of Hope.
- Enter a bountiful delve (tier 11 preferred).
- Reach the Empowered Restoration Stone inside the delve.
- Use the Beacon of Hope. This forces the Nemesis boss (Nullaeus) to spawn.
- Kill Nullaeus. He summons 2 adds, easy fight. Don't worry if you die, the cache stays.
- Loot his cache. Contains a guaranteed Trove Hunter's Bounty map (once per character per week) + chance at champion gear.
- Use the Trove Hunter's Bounty map BEFORE finishing the delve. It spawns a Hidden Trove.
- Open the Hidden Trove. Guaranteed hero track item (at tier 11). Plus 300 bonus reputation.
Critical Tips
- If the Nemesis spawns naturally (random chance), save your Beacon of Hope for an alt.
- Always do Nightmare Preys FIRST each week. This guarantees the Bounty on your very first bountiful run.
- The Bounty map is once per character per week. Do this on every alt.
- You can also buy a Beacon of Hope from a vendor for 5,000 undercoins, but the Nightmare Prey quest is free.
Mislaid Curio Boons (New in Midnight)
Scattered throughout delves are Mislaid Curios. Picking them up does two things:
- Grants Valeera XP until she caps at level 45.
- Gives you a random boon (permanent stat buff for the rest of that delve run).
On higher delve tiers, Mislaid Curios can also contain a Beacon of Hope. If you get the Loot Radar item from delve rewards, use it to highlight all Mislaid Curios on the map. Always pick up every curio you see.
Nemesis Enemies and the Nemesis Chest
Throughout each delve, you'll find Nemesis enemy packs (marked with a special icon). In tier 11 delves, there are 4 Nemesis groups.
- Kill all Nemesis groups to upgrade the Nemesis Chest to Epic quality.
- Epic chest rewards: warbound gear, undercoins, cosmetics.
- The chest also gives 125 reputation when maxed out.
- Never skip Nemesis packs. The extra rewards are always worth the 30 seconds.
Sanctified Banner
A hidden, shiny banner somewhere in each bountiful delve. When you click it:
- Either spawns an extra chest at the end of the delve, OR
- Spawns an elite enemy (Armaya). Kill it for additional rewards.
- Can also grant Lightbound ally buffs that help during the delve.
Always look for it. It's glowing and hard to miss if you're paying attention.
Complete Solo Delve Weekly Checklist
Do this on every level 90 character, every week:
- Nightmare Prey quest (Aselor): Complete 3 Nightmare Preys. Get Beacon of Hope + Coffer Key Shards.
- Cap Coffer Key Shards (600): World quests, treasures, rares in the zone.
- Run Tier 11 Bountiful Delves (up to 6 with keys):
- Use Beacon of Hope on first run to force Nemesis spawn.
- Loot Nemesis cache for Trove Hunter's Bounty map.
- Use map before finishing delve. Open Hidden Trove for hero track item.
- Kill all 4 Nemesis groups for epic chest.
- Find and click Sanctified Banner.
- Pick up every Mislaid Curio for boons.
- Use Restored Coffer Key on the bountiful chest at the end.
- Buy 2 Restored Coffer Keys (Rank 6+): 2,000 undercoins each from the vendor.
- Grab weekly quest item when it drops (1,500 rep, account-wide, once per week).
- Check Zoron (Rank 5+): After each tier 6+ run, check his stock. At Rank 9, he sells hero track gear for untainted mana crystals.
Tips for Faster Solo Clears
- Don't overpull. Pull one pack at a time, especially with Tank Valeera. She's sturdy but not immortal.
- Use the ping system. Ping enemies instead of body-pulling. Valeera engages first, you follow up safely.
- Watch for Valeera's Agony add. Kill it fast to keep her topped up.
- Equip Porcelain Blade Tip + Mandate of Sacred Death. No exceptions.
- If Valeera gets knocked out: Kite mobs until she recovers. Don't panic.
- Level Valeera to 45 ASAP. Run non-bountiful delves specifically to pick up Mislaid Curios for XP. Higher level = better performance.
- Find the fastest bountiful delve each day for infinite rep/undercoin farming. Some delves are much faster than others.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Valeera role should I use for Shadow Priest in solo delves?
Tank Valeera, no question. Shadow Priest is one of the squishiest specs in delves. You cannot survive tier 11 trash without a tank. Keep Valeera's Agony add as priority target, and let her pull everything first via ping.
Can I do Tier 11 delves with low gear?
Yes, if Valeera is level 45+. She scales independently. It will be slower, but doable. Start with tier 8 bountiful if you're struggling, then move up as you get champion track gear.
How many hero track items can I get per week from delves?
At Delver's Journey Rank 9: one guaranteed from the Trove Hunter's Bounty per character, plus random drops from tier 11 bountiful coffers (using keys), plus purchases from Zoron with untainted mana crystals (250 crystal weekly cap). Realistically, 2-4 hero track pieces per character per week.
Is DPS Valeera ever worth using as a non-rogue/hunter?
Only if you're a tank. DPS Valeera gives you a significant damage buff and does solid damage herself. For any other role, the survivability from Tank or Healer Valeera is more valuable than the DPS boost.
Should I do regular delves or only bountiful?
Bountiful for all your keyed runs (gearing, rep, resources). Regular delves only for unlocking new tiers and leveling Valeera early on. After tier 11 is unlocked and Valeera is 45, there's no reason to do regular delves.
What's the fastest way to level Valeera to 45?
Pick up every Mislaid Curio in every delve. Run lower tier delves quickly if you just want XP. Bountiful delves give more curios. The weekly "Delves Midnight" event (when active) gives bonus companion XP.
